Am I nuts!? I spent way too much $$ on Halloween decorations yesterday
:D

I'm having too much fun with this! For Halloween I'm turning my house into something between The Adams Family mansion and the Haunted Fun House at the State Fair. :D

I've got

*Motion sensor things that mmooooOOOOoooAAAAAaaaaaannNN at you as you pass by.

*Glowing footprints that will either lead into the house ...or out to the woods, I can't decide.

*The standard harvest stuff: hay bales and gourds for display.

*Things to put on the wall to make it look like there's someone trying to claw his (its) way out!

* Eyeballs to put on the windows to peek out at you.

* Glow in the dark spider webbing to put in the dark corners like the bathroom (with the accompanying black lighting of course)

Wow! And I haven't even thought about food yet!

1. You're not crazy...
so long as you're planning a huge Halloween party! Now if it was just going to be for YOU while you're giving candy to kids as they came by your house trick-or-treating....then you'd be crazy!

but it will be a great party, I think. Right now I don't know how many will show up...deadline is the 24.

I just really seem to be into this this year.

I always wanted to be invited to a costume party and no body ever did invite me!

So, I'm having my OWN DAMN PARTY! :D :D :D :D

4. I think this will be fun!
I'll get a big kick out of it anyway.

I always think of Halloween as the perfect anti Holiday antidote to some of the too sweet saccharine stuff that gets put out at xmas.

5. You sound like my sister

except she does all that just for the trick or treaters.

One year a friend threw a really great halloween party. He went to the party favors store and bought hard plastic bugs (flys and ants) to freeze into the ice cubes for drinks and took a baby doll apart and put the parts in red jello. Bunch of other things I can't remember but it was fun. Maybe bury fake eyeballs in the veggie dip?

...and all of the little children will be to frightened to actually visit,
and you will end up saving money in candy in the long run. ;) The kids always trick me into spending waaaayyyyy to much money on halloween. this year, we bought a haunted, lit, muah ah ah rock. It's kind of a competition in our neighborhood. I love this neighborhood, spooky trees, sidewalks and older homes make for much fun. they even do a haunted forest in the park on the lake up the street. Oh gosh, I'm talking too much.

7. I *love* Halloween
I'm told that the kids in this neighborhood go all out for it, too. Good - there are enough fundie freaks out here doing the church "harvest festivals" to keep the kids away from the EEEEVVVVIIIILLLL of Halloween. :eyes:

8. and, now, you have EVEN More reasons to LOVE it...
MrG hated Halloween (long story having to do with his mother dressing him up as a girl when he was 10) until he had his own little goblins! :hi:

9. I flat can't wait until next year.
In fact, I'm debating whether or not I want to get him a little set of rabbit ears to wear while we pass out candy this year. :D :hi:

:) Somewhere I have an article written from the perspective of a father, about a mother dressing his baby son up as a bumble bee for Halloween...it's very cute. I'll look for it and send it to you if I find it. :hi:

They're so innocent and the contrast is very funny to me.

23. There are all sorts of baby costumes out there!
One year, a woman I knew dressed her new born up as a chili pepper.
It was so adorable. The baby just slept the night away.....dressed as a chili pepper. Her hat was the little green stem. :)

11. Grr. church harvest festivals
I'm a church person, I won't deny it.

But this whole movement for "harvest festivals" really denies or tries to cover up the fact that the early Church usurped important dates in the N European pagan calendar, one of which was Halloween (Samhain). It really irks me.

Actually I'm understanding that the original intend of this holiday is something akin to the Mexican Day of the Dead. Any neopagans want to weigh in?

14. I have no problem with religion.
I have deep problems with shallow-assed, Americanized, church-lady evangelism. The kind that makes kids fricking go to church on Halloween.

Y'know, I just might teach Chris to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Wonderful holiday, and one from which our anglo selves could learn a lot, imho! :D

15. Dios de los Muertos is a great holiday
:D

I also have a problem with haunted houses and woods things around here that masquerade as Halloween fun but are really "Come to God" activities, wanting you to get saved in the process. The so called "Hell Houses" That really upsets me too.

I don't think any diety is offended if for one night we indulge in our darker selves. But to pretend we aren't doing otherwise is deeply hypocritical to me.

16. I've heard of those.
I'm just waiting for the first "Hell House" to open out here. They're probably long since here, actually. Hell-haunted freaks.

Personally, I've always figured our darker selves were there for a purpose if any other part of us was. Of course, that's a bit too complex for our fundie friends...
