GUN SHOT - last night
the next-door knuckle-dragger was up to it again!

around 7:30pm last night we hear this gun shot - right outside our window. One voice says "sorry Joe", another voice yells "son of bitch you shot me in the leg" (about 1/2 hour later we realize they were joking around about being shot when we saw 'joe' walking around normally in his driveway)

knuckle-dragger and buddy were in their yard - with guns - apparantly hunting on posted land behind the house.

yeah, we called our local police chief - never showed up to investigate. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

enny-whooo - we called the cops right away - then were on the phone with two of our neighbors who confirmed they too heard the shot and the "shot me in the leg" shout. These two neighbors also said they got phone calls from other neighbors asking about the gun shot.

sorry - I know we are in a rural area, but there is a cluster of houses in the immediate area. and it was at FREAKING 7:30PM at night, dark, no moon, no lights.

we are putting up SAFETY ZONE - NO HUNTING signs along our property today - and going down to the police station to find out why they didn't show up last night.

For pete's sake - what if I were out last night taking the dogs out to do their business - the dogs or me could have been hit.

not sure what else we can do other than put up the signs if the police won't respond.

1. It's illegal to hunt after dark.
So they were not hunting, just shooting.

Do you live in a subdivision? If you do, what are the deed restrictions? Is there a community association? If so, where are the by-laws?

Unless you are living in the country, in an area developed pall mall, ad hoc, then there may be some controlling authority. Make sure all the neighbors who are upset call about it. There is strength in numbers.

4. not a sub-division
this is a small town where there are more cows than people.

it's going to be the talk of the neighborhood this morning. I suggested that we see about getting everyone together and figure out if there is anything we can do about the freaking knuckle-dragger

the land immediately behind knuckle-draggers was posted - but last year knuckle-dragger ripped down the signs - I don't know if the owner of the land reposted or not -- will have to take a walk out there today and see

basically - knuckle-dragger has houses all around him - on either side, across the street and behind him

2. Maybe I'm just a cranky neighbor, but I'd report it to the sheriff's
office, just to have something on record, in the event that knuckle-dragger does, in fact, shoot someone one of these days.

Be safe, radfringe. I'm sorry your neighbors are nutty.

6. No law about discharging a weapon within X feed of another residence?
I'll bet that there is...

Other than that, next time they yuk it about about a shot in the leg, yell back, "Hey dipshit! Aim higher next time!"

8. Had gun shots around my place, too last week
It's rural, but there are a lot of houses clustered in this area. Later I went to a harvest party and complained to the guy who owns the property from where the shots issued. I think his son lives on the property now. He said, "Oh they were probably jsut setting the sites on the gun." Yeah, well, guess what, the bullet travels jsut as far. I suggested that perhaps they should adjust their sites in an area not so populated.

Unfortunately, I doubt that a suggestion like that wouldn't work your knuckle draggers. My sympathies.
