After last week, I'll take it. :toast:

I'm glad USC won though. With the Cardinals losing to the Astros, if the Longhorns were #1, sports radio would have been insufferable.

4. OMG, no kidding
you would have had to deal with the Longhorns, and I would have had to deal with the dejected USC'ers. That was really best for both of us. Plus, I freaking hate Notre Dame. x(

Meanwhile, it looks like KSU will be the team that races OSU to the bottom of the Big 12 this year, LOL.

8. Agreed.
Those bastards even whined back when they had winning seasons. You remember, those 3 or 4 seasons where they thought they were all hot shit because they won 5 or 6 games early (mostly b/c they were playing West Central Iowa Community College and the like)?

They'd whine because they didn't think they were rated high enough. Then they'd invariably lose a conference game, fall further in the rankings, and commence a losing streak that lasted for the rest of the season.

Yes, I hate KSU too. ;)

9. 1998. A&M beat them in the BigXII Championship game.
They were whining about not getting one of the other BCS bids. The Cotton Bowl and Holiday Bowl had already locked other teams in, so they had to go to the Alamo Bowl. I got free tickets to that game, and Purdue beat them. If you're going to whine, at least win your bowl game. Plus, they schedule cupcakes in their non-conference games.

Bah...KSU...:P

Snyder has made a career of scheduling non-conference cupcakes to pad their Win/Loss record. Of course, that's why they've never been rated as highly as they feel they should have been.

And yeah, they also have quite the habit of losing their bowl game, on those rare occasions when they've actually gotten to one.

The Michigan/Penn St. game and the USC/ND game were great. UCLA came from way behind to win too. Good day for LA teams...except the Angels.

There were a bunch of other good games, too. Wake/BC, LSU/Florida, Alabama/Ole Miss...

14. Oooh man,
when you visit, be sure NOT to refer to the Angels as a team from LA. From what I can tell, people are REALLY touchy about that. They only claim the Dodgers...the Angels are from Anaheim (regardless of what the team name is), which is decidedly NOT LA.

I made that mistake...ONCE...learned it quickly. ;)

18. Yup, it's totally backwards
UCLA's campus is really pretty, and actually almost feels like suburbia. Unfortunately, none of its students can afford to live anywhere near it, so they live by USC.

Meanwhile, the USC football team has to dodge the drive-by bullets during practice and their campus looks like SHIT, but all of their students live in Westwood.

Welcome to Los Angeles. ;)

Yeah, the problem with the additional degree is the only one they have at the law school campus (that I don't already have) is an LLM in Tax. I'd rather poke my eye out with a spoon.

The main campus is clear the heck over by LAX. Which is nearly an hour from my apartment, in good traffic conditions. So...meh.

26. Well, I don't know about some of that
I'm an 'SC grad who doesn't remember a single fellow student who lived anywhere near Westwood. The off-campus housing was plentiful just to the north of campus, toward the Row on 28th Street. That's where the flood of traffic would be every day, heading to and from campus at the Jefferson and Hoover interesection. I was just there for homecoming last week and nothing has changed, according to the students I talked to.

The campus itself is compact but terrific. Several logical hangout points where you could wait for friends or drool at coeds, like the steps in front of Von Kleinschmid Center, or near Tommy Trojan and the Student Union, or in front of the old PE building and Heritage Hall. It's very true you don't want to stroll off campus, especially at night. Luckily we're finally getting our own basketball arena that is under construction now, just across the street the from traditional eastern edge of campus. The walk to the Sports Arena used to be so potentially treacherous at night they had yellow jacketed security guards forming a virtual human chain en route to campus.

I don't actually know where the USC students live. ;) The point was that the USC students are more likely to be able to afford to live in Westwood than the UCLA students are. Generality to be sure.

I've only been to the USC campus once, but I honestly have to say I wasn't impressed. Nothing personal, it just wasn't my thing.

39. The first tme I saw the campus I described it as all army barracks
That's when I was 17 on a family trip from Miami. The northeast corner of campus had all these old wooden buildings that looked pathetic. A year later I got a half scholarship and decided to attend. None of my friends could believe it, since I'd always hated the football team and a year earlier I was unimpressed with the campus.

The campus is dreary and unimpressive if you drive around it. Especially if it's an overcast or smoggy day. But as a student there I really appreciated it, classes so close together and several nice park-like areas with full tree cover. It's like you're totally isolated from what's just a mile or two in any direction.

Hey, FSU lost! What an awesome day, the Canes and Trojans winning while the Noles and especially Gators rightfully gagged.

is that god-foresaken Olympic-turned-football stadium. That is one FUGLY hunk of concrete. I admit that I didn't get to see the park-like areas, though I'm glad to know it doesn't all look like an army barracks (good description).

46. Yeah, the old grey Coliseum is adjacent to the Sports Arena
In Exposition Park. That's a treacherous walk at night. Sometimes we'd get drunk and wander in a group over there just to be stupid. It's actually a fun cattle roundup from campus to the Coliseum, and back, on football game days.

They can't grow the vines high enough to cover the Coliseum's age and cracks. The peristyle end looks good especially if you appreciate the history, but otherwise I agree it's a dreary stadium and bad neighborhood. Twice I had my car towed to a station near the Coliseum and had to retrieve it while walking thru a crowd of Mexicans who seemed to be sizing me up for a potential mugging.

I was an Oilers fan, so now I don't have a team. I was going to adopt the Texans, until I saw Poppy Bush at their first game. He's a good friend of the owner. :puke: So, now every year I adopt a new team. This year it's Cincinnati. :) But on Sundays, we automatically get the Cowboys and Texans. That leaves one chance to get a good game. Although, the Giants and Cowboys could be good tomorrow.

I was living with my folks in Hawaii in the late 1970s. The Oilers had a player named Billy "White Shoes" Johnson who danced when he scored a TD. He was my favorite player. They also played a Monday night football game where Earl Campbell went off for 200-something yards, so I just started liking them. Then we moved to Texas. I followed them through thick and thin. That playoff game they lost after being up 35-3 in Buffalo about sent me over the edge. :grr:

Sigh...I need to get to bed. I'm getting sleepy.
