So about eight years ago I got a pair of nice Allen Edmunds black dress shoes as a gift. I have worn them four to six days a week ever since. I have had them refurbished twice (you send them back to the plant and they replace the soles and the cork and they look brand new) but last winter they got really salty. They would not refurbish them again. So, I had to spring for a new pair today.
Allen Edmunds are expensive but are definately the best non-custom-made shoes in America. (Plus they are on sale this week).
The moral of this story-- don't buy cheap shoes. Good shoes are a better deal in the long run.
