Gas prices... WTF?
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 06:34 PM by D__S
There's 3 independently owned gas stations less than a 1/4 mile from me.

Rather than have gas price wars, all 3 charge the same price. For the past few days the price has been $2.47 per gallon.

Less than a week ago I paid $2.75 at the same station.

About 2 weeks ago it was $2.89

BTW... this is just outside of Boston.

1. I know the feeling. I was like "Wow! 2.59!" But then I got mad for being s
o thrilled at 2.59. Like that's some kind of gift when it's still expensive.

When Clinton was pres. I remember it being as low as $1.09 and wondering if gas had ever been 99cents/gallon.

2. Sit down, darlin'. Daddy's gonna tell you a story.
When I was your age, they paid us to take gasoline off their hands. It fell from trees, it ran in the gutters. It was everywhere.

Okay, seriously — the first time I heard "If gas gets to _____, I'm gonna stop driving," it was 50 or 60 cents.

Hard. To. Believe.

3. Then you probably remember...
When the attendants washed your windshield and checked your oil level...

Road maps were free...

Air for filling your tires was free...

There were giveaways like drinking glasses, plates, etc...

There was no such thing as "self serve".

5. I remember those days!

Didn't think many others did...

When I was a kid, I recall my parents getting those glass giveaways at the gas station. I also remember full service, and people actually helping you when you pulled up to a tank.

Whoa---that seems like soooo long ago, doesn't it?

On edit, is Hello Kitty packing heat? LMAO!

15. Air for tires isn't free? Are you kidding?
I've never seen it offered for sale in Canada; it's always free. I'd never pay.

By the way, there's a full-serve Esso station on Broadway and Kingsway in Vancouver where the attendants still wash your windows (all of them), check your oil and air, and give you a little plastic trash bag. Same gas price as everywhere else, too.

Last time I drove by, however, I noticed the property is slated for a highrise condo development.

12. Thanks : )
I've got a mess o' those free maps, too. Couple hundred or so. Grabbed a few every time we stopped for gas on summer vacations and stuff.

Just filled up a couple hours ago — $59 and change. :wow:

14. I told my wife yesterday, "Isn't it f*cked up that we get excited when
gas "drops" to $2.89/gal?" That is regular unleaded, too...nothing fancy.

8. $3.00 - $3.50 per gallon I can manage if need be.
(I hope the oil barons aren't reading this):hi:

I'm more concerned about the cost of home heating oil this winter.

7. In my little city in Wisconsin, there are 3 gas stations.
Prices for regular unleaded are $2.99, $2.89, and $2.79.

The station with $2.79 gas was sold out yesterday.

13. The diesel prices are going up faster than gasoline...
...I was considering a diesel car to replace my current gas-powered Honda when I'm ready to do so, but I'll have to see how much worse it gets. I can't imagine how rough it must be for independent truckers right now...
