Great Dog Needs Great Home ...Friendly Dog Seeks Companion...
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 12:39 PM by masmdu

http://www.greensboro101.com/newswire/display/5801/index.php

Mel, our Australian Shepherd/Lab mix is the friendliest dog in the world. Unfortunately we can no longer keep him as our family is growing (but our house isn't). Can you or somebody you know give him a great home? Please contact me. Thanks. (Mel, Black-Grey, Medium Size, House Broken, Friendly, Smart, Healty -all shots)

Greensboro, NC area

Please help me find Mel a good place to live.

Thanks

Do me a favor...do NOT repy if you are just going to dump on me for trying to find Mel a home.
DO Reply if you can be helpful in finding Mel a new home

something to throw away when it gets inconvenient. I hope he does find a good home because he deserves better.

2. You just voiced my thoughts
Looking at the picture of that dog, not knowing his "pack" is about to abandon him is just heartbreaking.

5. No actually...Your presumption is Wrong...Your insinuation is uncalled for

Mel was an abused dog that we took in an nursed back to health (mental and physical). We never intended to keep him forever...just long enough to get him back on his feet and help him find a good home.

Both my wife and myself have lost our jobs.

Our two year old is allergic to dogs.

We have another baby coming.

And I wouldn't give him to you if you begged me.

How about asking if you have questions instead of assuming the worst...geesh!

6. Have you listed him with the Australian Shepherd rescues?
That might be a good place to start.

8. Please don't take this the wrong way, because many people have
good intentions, but, if you never intended to keep him forever, perhaps he shouldn't have been brought home in the first place. Our home at one point was a dog, a cat, a 7 year old, and a baby...with just my husband's job and a bunch of bills, all in less than 750 sf.. We managed. My son is allergic to animals as well, and we have a Sheltie. He takes his meds, she is brushed and washed with a special shampoo and kept out of his room. So far so good. Please do all you can to reconsider and not disrupt this poor boy's life anymore. I agree with the Aussie rescue placement. We had an Aussie, and they can be hard to place.

good luck,

Laura

9. Cattledog couldn't have known all of that from your original post,
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 12:36 PM by Heidi
which attributed your need to find a new home for Mel to the fact that your family is growing but your house isn't. Cattledog could not have known that your and your wife have lost your jobs, or that your two-year-old is allergic to dogs, or that you've another baby coming. How about full disclosure, rather than jumping all over a member who has empathy for your companion animal?

14. That's very true, Heidi.
I agree with everything you said.

Many of us see too many cases where people abandon their pets for very lame reasons. One of my friends is very involved with cat rescues and she gets pets back all the time, usually when the novelty wears off, the pet becomes ill or has behavioral problems, the people move, or there's a new baby. The original post sure sounded like that to me! I don't think the edited version is helpful, either, but I'm willing to give the guy a break since he's got a lot of shit going on.

10. boy, it's so easy to just judge folks
:grr:

I don't really know the original poster of this thread but I do know people who serve as foster parents to pets. Quite possibly if it wasn't for masmdu, this beautiful dog would have just been euthanized instead of at least being given a second chance.

For all I know this original poster could be full of crap, but as a progressive thinker I'd like to believe that the poster is just a good-hearted person who wanted to help give a dog a second chance.

Let's not be judgmental. If I wanted that I'd go join some conservative website

11. I think I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but how many times do we
hear this from animal shelters...the owner couldn't keep it because their family was growing. I think my post was respectful and well intentioned. But, without the second, clarifying post, I can see why eyebrows were raised.

13. maybe I'm being a little cranky, but people are giving you their opinions
on an opinion board. You're asking for people to jump on you with that edit.

17. Again, opinion. if you can't take a little heat....
perhaps, instead of editing with that last comment you could edit with all the stuff you posted about your situation, jobs, kids when someone raised an eyebrow????

22. You're not helping your situation by getting angry. This is an opinion
board. My eyebrow is still raised at the intent. We had no space and a son with an allergy problem, and found a way to work it out.

You have too. but your first post mentioned (and still doesn't) nothing about the lack of jobs, and the child with the allergy. I'm still surprised you didn't choose to re edit it.

why the snarkiness?

20. My goodness, people, I guess that's a lesson not to ask for any help
around here! There are some circumstances that are unavoidable and heartwrenching choices must be made. The holier than thou is unbecoming. Perhaps the poster should just have the dog put down rather than try to find a loving family, hmmmmm? The poster seems to be asking for Constructive comments.
