Okay, this Desperate Housewives shit has got to stop....
Today, on the ABC morning blather show, they focused in on a high powered bank exec who happened to be a single mom..

Did I mention this woman was gorgeous....

Anyway, they started in with the guilt trip..... That when at work she felt guilty about the kids and then when at home, she felt guilty about her job....

Did I mention this woman had a body that would make Hugh Hefner take notice....

So, the "normal" kids in this "expose" on just how desperate housewives can become, has two kids with more modern distraction at pre teen age than I have had in my life time..... She is working to buy her kids affection and sate her own materialistic needs.....

Did I mention they lived in a house chuck full to the rafters with all sorts of disposable goodies.... Not neccessities... Frills...

So this woman has chosen a life style that is centered around the material things in life that she believe lead to fullfillment... She could choose to life a simpler life... But she choose the path which makes the accumulation of things a high priority...

Did I mention the woman and her off spring all were wearing the latest sytles.....

So, if you are so "desperate" to connect with your children, want to spend time with them, want to have it all, how's about scaling back on the frills, spending less time accumulating things and spending more time building lasting bonds with your children instead of teaching them, by example, that amassing stuff is the way to seek fullfillment...

America, if you want less desperation in your life, live a simpler life...

Cause in the end, as we all know, you can't take it with you....

kids, and I work from home....but it's not so I can "buythe latest. That was disgusting.

I watched a young girl grow in a twice married woman. She was an only child whose parents gave her the best of everything - the diamond and gold nameplate necklace for your birthday type of family. She is beautiful, she had everything that she ever wanted. Now her mansion and jet trips to Manhattan to do a bit of clothes shopping don't make her happy.

do you wonder why ...

21. sure she'd be a lot happier if she was poor
don't think so

yes, some ppl are broken inside, no matter what terrific $$$, freedoms, and opportunities they have, they will find a way to make themselves miserable

but the young girl who is unhappy and unresourceful and a LOSER as a rich girl would be even more pathetic, unhappy, lost, and a LOSER as a poor girl

it is a shame that some ppl have a screw loose or a bad chemical in their brain or whatever that makes them miserable but it's pure-dee silliness to blame their being given opportunities for their misery

would you be miserable w. her chances? i sure wouldn't, i would sell the gold & diamond nameplate & take a trip around the world to take some photographs or run a little art gallery or any of thousand other wonderful little dreams that can only be accomplished if you have MONEY

22. She was spoiled by her entire family, aunts , uncles, grandparents.
She did work her way up successfully in a Fortune 500 Company before she gave up an extremely good paying position to become a cherished and pampered housewife.

I don't think there Is Enough Money to help her find contentment.

She is the perfect example of money not being able to buy happiness.

Sad but true.

8. The thing that pisses me off the most about
stories like that is that there are parents who struggle at two and three jobs just to keep the utilities on and pay the rent but they're hardly ever paid attention to. Instead I'm suppose to feel sorry for people like this.

9. Both of my folks worked hard to keep food on the
table and give us the necessities of life......

Any frilly shit, we had to get on our own....

Has it made me a better person....

I don't know but I do know this, know enough at this stage of the game to stop worrying about being part of or in on the next "best" thing

16. Same here
no dance lessons, braces on our teeth, or private music lessons.
Not to mention we had cars when we could afford to buy a beater
bomb of our own.
My parents had no balance not even in the check book
and as far as a social life.....well that came when we
were all raised and out of the house.

11. For once can these assholes do a segment
on a MAN that's having problems balancing his roles as a father and a member of the workforce?

These moronic fluff pieces do more to reinforce outdated concepts of gender roles than James Dobson could ever hope to aim for.

12. The media has simple become a handjob for the executive class.........
I live next door to a working class single mom who work as a secretary, cleans houses (under the table) and volunteers as a crossing guard. Good morning America isn't doing a profile on her.

Why? Because she's a poor black women with no education, living on Section 8 assistance in one of the roughest ghettoes in New York. That's not something that the perky Katie Couric clones want to bother yuppies with as they gulp coffee to rush onto the highway.

14. This is the part I liked:
The one with young children who wants special treatment at the office just because she has kids. She tells her boss she needs "balance" in her life. Her boss says, "Don't you think childless people want balance in their lives too?" I suppose the boss was supposed to look like a jerk, but I was like YESSSS!!!

I used to work in an office where people with kids could do anything they wanted (e.g. leaving the office whenever they felt like it) and the childless were persecuted, so this hit home with me.

17. I thought the demonization of the "childless" person was interesting
ABC will be getting a letter.

>I used to work in an office where people with kids could do anything they wanted (e.g. leaving the office whenever they felt like it) and the childless were persecuted, so this hit home with me.<

DH and I have both had multiple experiences with the above, with several different employers. I work for myself now. He gets sent on business trips with very little notice -- after all, we "don't have kids," therefore, our lives are deemed less important.

19. Oh yea, that part really get's me....
I never had kids, so I feel for you...

It's not that I begrudge the people, it's just that the single people don't get the same flexbility....

That is what I could not stand when I was in the workplace....

20. what nonsense, there is no such thing as a simpler life
i am personally deeply suspicious of any attempt to tell a high-powered single mom that she should just sit back & connect w. her kiddies

the woman needs $$$

i've watched other women give up high powered positions & all the "frills," they do not actually have more time to connect w. their kids in their new position of being powerless & at the mercy of the boss's horny streak & of uncertain economics

the kids are better off w. frills than w. slacker mom, these kids will get to go to the best college, be able to achieve etc.

the single mom who is not at the top doesn't love her kids one bit more & she is able to provide them w. quite a bit less

it is pure jealousy on our part when we see a high achieving single mom & our first impulse is to yell at her to slow down

everybody is desperate

the poor more desperate than the rich, really
