Why?

As I rapidly changed the channel, I was reminded of the sad, sad state of the modern sitcom.

3. The viewers are the commodity for the networks.
Whatever gets put on the tube is primarily decided by advertisers (there are exceptions of course) but unless you're a CEO of a major corporation who wants inoffensive schtick, TV is not for you.
