What's your favorite rock album?
For me it's a tie between Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and the Beatles' "Revolver".

2. Does it have to be "classic" or can it be more contemporary?
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 01:11 AM by primate1
If it's classic, "London Calling" by The Clash. If it can be more contemporary, "Frances The Mute" by The Mars Volta would probably top the list.

16. Hmm..."rock" is such an arbitrary term...
I'd have to say for just simple balls-out, blues-inspired rock and roll, the Gun Club's "Fire of Love".

For energy, it would be "Madonna", by And You Will Know Them by the Trail of Dead.

For mastery of the genre, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 02:35 AM by Scoots
Depends on your categorization of 'rock.' I figure no rap or country. So I still can't decide between:

SOD -- Speak English, Or Die
Roger Waters -- Amused to Death
Sex Pistols -- Never Mind the Bollocks
Deep Purple -- Machine Head
Hendrix -- Jimi Plays Monterey
RATM -- Battle of LA
George Clinton -- Hey Man, Smell My Finger (Lots of live musicians, rather than all the usual samples. If it still doesn't fit you can trade it for Funkadelic's Maggot Brain.)

71. "Remain in Light" by the band with the name Talking Heads
Remain In Light benefits mightily from incredible guitar work by Adrian Belew. Culmination of Talking Head's effort to bring third world rhythms to mainstream rock n roll. Lots of off-world "ambient" sounds courtesy of producer, Brian Eno. Proves even art school students can rock.

Their "Fear of Music" comes a close second.

Favorite rock album: Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols by the Sex Pistols

Each album represents the reductio ad absurdum of its genre.

I had a college assignment to pick an album I would take to a desert island. I chose "Ziggy Stardust" by David Bowie. In the interim, I see how I could make a case for "London Calling"....Please don't leave me abandoned on an island so I have to choose. On second thought, I would possibly choose "This Years Model" by Elvis Costello
