Cat owners (AKA owned by cats)

Has anyone ever travelled long distance (via car) with one or more of their cats? Like an extended journey of four days? If so, how did it go? Did the cats have to be sedated? Any tips you can give me?

1. Most I've gone is 5 hours

to deliver a kitten to my sister. It went okay, because the kitten was still very young, 6 weeks old. We brought food and water, stopped a couple of times for potty breaks for kitty, and she slept most of the way.

Have you checked with your vet? I know some animals are sedated for travel, so if necessary you could probably get something safe there.

2. My vet gave me sedatives for them (should have been for me)

One day I drove a mere hour and one of the cats (I have four) didn't stop meowing the whole way. When I reached my destination and I let them out of their carriers, they looked freaky!! Their eyes were slits and it made their faces unrecognizable. And they wobbled all over the place!! It took hours to get them sober.

"sigh"

I'm not looking forward to future trips. Wish they were better travellers (though I know some cats are perfectly cool about travel).
