What posting classes did you take?
So I'm looking at a recent thread.....and it hits me.

I was self-taught....But I did notice something...

WCGreen and CaliforniaPeggy must have gone to the same school...

They always post several one-line sentences, followed by elipses...

Each sentence requires pause...fragmented thoughts, yet coherent...

Not sure if I'm correct....but it seems to be true.

The pattern is consistent....at least to me...have you noticed?

:P

1. This is a very interesting thing that you have noticed........
I think I did pick it up from him.....

It's easy to read and comprehend as well.....

I am very imitative when it comes to people I admire and respect...

You are quite perceptive.......

8. I attended the same school...
I love the ellipses... (even though I never use them AS ellipses) I just love the dots...

I used to use the "X" on my old typewriter...instead of white out :)

Sometimes I write like I think... scattered, and wandering from topic to topic..

3. I learned anything that I know on my own
no classes, no instruction manual.

I WAS an English major, though, and am a writer as well, so that influences my style.

One thing I use a fair amount of in my own writing are dashes--for me, they come in very handy. Since we can't actually do an en or em dash without going into the ASCII character chart, it ends up being two hyphenates. Some people don't understand that, though. In Word, you can "autocorrect" to get the dash as a substitute, which is how I do it if I'm working on it.

Believe it or not, one of my favorite books is Strunk and White's Elements of Style. It's a great book to learn from.

4. Here, I write conversationally.....
Taking pauses where there would be one in a conversation....

If I am writing for publication, of which I have done from time to time, I follow the rules of grammer as best I can....

I also do this kinda stuff when I got somethin' I wanna say....

Know what I mean....

I have a tendency to get formal at times, though.
