Cool movie!! Some very funny parts, some very anger-inducing parts (Vietnam war stuff)...

Overall, Rabrrrrrr gives it 1.5 thumbs up.

And more importantly, I can say - I am glad I saw it.

1. Just for you -
Weird Al's ode to the slow witted optimist (sung to the tune of Lump by The Presidents of the United States of America)

Lyrics:

Gump sat alone on a bench in the park
"My name is Forrest," he'd casually remark
Waitin' for the bus with his hands in his pockets
He just kept sayin' life is like a box of chocolates

He's Gump, He's Gump
What's in his head?
He's Gump, He's Gump, He's Gump
Is he in-bred?

Gump was a big celebrity
He told JFK that he really had to pee
He never feels too dumb because
His mom always told him stupid is as stupid does

He's Gump, He's Gump
He's kinda square
He's Gump, He's Gump, He's Gump
What's with that hair?

Run... run... run, run, now Forrest
Run... run... run like the wind now
Run... run... run, run, now Forrest
Run... stop!

His buddy Bubba was a shrimp-lovin' man
His friend with no legs he called Lieutenant Dan
His girlfriend Jenny was kind of a slut
He went to the White House, showed LBJ his butt

He's Gump, He's Gump
He's not too bright
He's Gump, He's Gump, He's Gump
But he's alright

Is this Gump out of his head?
I think so
Is this Gump really brain dead?
I think so
Did this Gump make lots of bread?
I think so
And that's all I have to say about that

4. I know! And I was letting the credits roll, queueing up another DVD,
it came to the end of the credits and it said "1994" and I thought - holy fucking shit!!! I've been hearing about Forrest Gump for ELEVEN FUCKING YEARS?!?!

I thought maybe it was five.

I had no idea it is older than Twister.

3. Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but Bayou La Batre where Forrest grew up
& had his shrimping business was totally wiped out by Katrina. Some of the filming was done there in better days. Now it is worse than New Orleans.

9. I have some pavlovian reponses to this movie in that no matter how many
times I see it, I start crying on cue during certain scenes.

11. Yes
The movie is like a catalogue of monumentous, meaningful and personality-oriented events through the recent decades.

I was there.

13. Oh Shawshank is an excellent movie--merited some oscars, agreed!

It is strange that great movies cluster like that--witness "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of OZ".
