Sullivan is very clingy though (for a cat); he would sleep on my lap 24-7 if I let him. Schubert is more laid back.

These pics were taken during our evacuation adventure to WestHoustonDem's house, which is like a kitty Disneyworld.

Leander doing what he does best...

The boys bonded on the roadtrip

Jennings catching up on the news, thinking to himself, "When is that DeLay indictment going to come down?!"

I don't think this is what they mean by "lap cat."

10. I'll keep them as long as they need homes...
But I want to keep bringing them back to the shelter to socialize with the other kitties there, so that if the time comes that I can't take them with me, it won't be such a shock to them. And if, in that time, they do find permanent homes, I'll let them go. Better to have a definite permanent home than a "maybe" permanent one. Leander particularly has stolen my heart though! :loveya:

I just can't commit to forever with them, though, because if my plans go well in the next couple years, I might do something crazy like Peace Corps or move in with a family in Mexico as a tutor. I don't have the heart to give away a forever pet, but if I keep them as fosters in my mind, and keep them familiar with Whiskerville, I won't feel like I have dumped them. It's rationalization, I know, but I don't think I could just give away someone I adopted.

12. I don't know if I could do it
I am afraid I would get too attached to them. One day I will have a cat or two again. Right now I am away over the weekend too often so it wouldn't be fair to the cats. So I totally understand your concern.

I'm a new foster mommy. I haven't had trouble sending my kitties to good homes, but the ones I have left, I am getting very attached to. I'm more afraid of how I'll feel if I need to give them back to the shelter than if I give them up to a new home.

43. ooh a new..
..foster mom?? :D With our shelter, we foster them until they're 2 lbs, (or the smallest one of the bunch reaches 2 lbs), then they go back to the shelter to be spayed or neutered. THEN the shelter adopts them out. We're not allowed to adopt out of our houses or anything.. not sure if I'd want to. Most of those have already been adopted.. Atlanta, Machiatto, Chai & Duncan are left (oh, and Marana.. Duncan's mom). Atlanta, Machiatto & Chai just because they were pretty new fosters that I took in not long ago. Duncan's been out of commission in the ringworm room. :( Poor guy. & Marana.. well she's a tortie, and acts like it! So she bosses & lets the other cats in the room with her know who's boss! Doesn't always look good with potential adopters walking around watching that. :P Good luck with yours! It doesn't matter how many you have.. they're ALWAYS hard to give up!

46. I got my first litter last month...
5 adorable black kitties about 5 weeks old. One is left, Leander, the sweetest of the bunch! I took home another kitty to keep him company while I work, Jennings, who is about 4 months old. he should be getting fixed soon. Then, a volunteer found a cat under the hood of her car, which they believe is pregnant, so I took her home too. No babies yet, and I'm not sure she's not just fat!LOL!

I am SO tempted to keep Leo, but if I have him for two years and get the chance to move somewhere i can't take him, then I would be heartbroken. Still, they told me they would always take him back there. But I can't imagine giving him back to the shelter after he's had a home  It's a nice place, but he needs LOVE!LOL!

This shelter has about 200 of it's 300 cats in foster care. They are only open to the public a couple days a week while under renovation, so we bring kitties in for viewing on those days, plus there is a photo album with all the cats, and anyone interested can make appointments to visit with them too. Not sure if that process will still be the same after the renovations.

79. Thank you for this great thread!
I was looking for a kitten thread Wednesday night. I really needed a furbaby pic fix after an awful day.

This helped a lot. :)

From the front: Funky, Clarence, and Magic -- parent's kitties

And Mr. Scruffy. My stepmom resuced him and found him a home. She had just cut out some matted fur, so that's why he looks like he just got a bad haircut, and that's why they named him Mr. Scruffy.
