braunschweiger.........pros and cons
Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 06:38 AM by mopaul

what do you do with it? do you eat it? how to you cook it? or serve it? how do you even explain it? is it a delicacy, or a pariah?
what is the origin of it? should it be force fed to prisoners? is it bad for america? should people who like it be forced to watch it being made? is there anyway to make it taste better? or worse?
is there any in your fridge? should it ever be used in conjunction with limburger? would you serve it to your own children? is it a threat to national security? how much of it is already right here, in america? does your neighbor eat it? should you report him? can we ever be rid of it? is it a meat of mass destruction? why won't my cat eat it? why won't cockroaches or flies eat it? are there any other uses for it besides a so called food source? should there be a law against it? i need input here folks, cause there is a chunk of it in my refrigerator that's been there for 19 months, and it has turned bright green and fuzzy.

3. Great on crackers... with a slice of olive or a bit of onion. (more...)
... add a bottle of your favorite wine, some cheese, sliced apples, berries, sourdough bread... a wonderful evening snack.

4. Bright Green and Fuzzy? That means "It's Done!"
Have a big bite, full of those healthy mold spores. Maybe lucky enough to get some natural penicillin.

5. In your case...toss it!
Buy some fresh; put it on wheat bread, with lettuce and mayonnaise...it's fairly tasty. About twice a year, I get the craving for braunschwieger. The con? IT'S LIVER!!!

6. My mom loved this stuff
Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 07:11 AM by PDittie
She would spread it on white bread with mayo :puke:

...or spread it on a cracker, like a pate'.

And a glass of buttermilk.

Liver pate', that's the closet thing to compare it to.

It tastes like pressed catshit.

8. Pro: Love the flavor.
Spread on toast with mayo. sinful.

Con: As unhealthy a food as you can eat: solid cholesterol and full of god-knows-what.

I eat it (and love it), but very, very rarely.

10. Hey, keep in mind...
The latest consensus is that EATING cholesterol isn't nearly as bad as they thought it used to be. It's the saturated fats that your body uses to MAKE cholesterol that ends up hurting you. So don't feel as guilty! Have some today!

(I can't stand it myself but I do eat more eggs since learning the good news.)

14. I love it - the ultimate sandwich
SOme big slabs of braunschweiger, some thick white or yellow onion (don't like it with red onions as much), swiss cheese, lotsa mayo (none of that Hellman's crap, either, has to be miracle whip fake mayo), served on toast.

I could eat three of 'em. Man, I love the stuff. Ate it every day for lunch just about for a number of years.

Also good to have taht sandwich with soup and potato chips, or just the chips, and just enjoy the flavor.

Best on still hot toast, but if need be, also good on plain old regular non-toasted bread.

Also great on crackers, with onion and cheese.

Same with chicken liver pate - great with crackers and cheese.

I think swiss cheese goes best with it.

15. I love braunschweiger!
It's good on crackers, but I like a sandwich of the stuff.
Add some mayo, a touch of horseradish, throw on some green onions and alfalfa sprouts, and you've got a tasty sandwich.

19. so in other words, it must be buried with stuff to hide the flavor
seemingly, no one eats it straight out of the...whatever it comes in.
i've eaten it, but that was ages ago. my mom would make it for my school lunches, but around noon, it took on an archaic, dried out look, like sun dried buffalo spore. the consensus so far is that it is a good thing, yet, i can't help but worry that it could be the downfall of our society itself. why would i think that?

21. Gross!
My mom loves this stuff so it was always in our fridge during my youth. But even the smell of it has always turned my stomach. The only good use I ever saw for it was to hid my dog's heart worm pill in!
