So disappointed. Just read that Dennis Hopper
is an ardent Republican who voted for Bush twice. This is from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (the one with Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo on the cover). Hopper has a new TV show "E-Ring" billed as a "Pentagon drama." Apparently, the show has an "establishment friendly bent". Whatever that means. Doesn't sound good. Oh, well, Hopper's bad karma for turning Republican probably means his show won't last. He's up against "Lost" in his time slot.

1. After seeing the character on the promos he's playing
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 06:49 PM by miss_kitty
I'm not that surprised. He's not a very good actor. And the lines in the promo that I've heard him read sound stupid, derivative and contrived. Looks like a steaming pile . Just like him.

2. Any roles he has played that are worth mentioning
Are typically roles in which he basically played himself.

4. Like his good pal
Jack Nicholson. Another steaming pile of shit . I wouldn't waste a plastic bag to pick either one of them up. And if I stepped in either, I'd throw away the shoes.

27. Jack is a self-described liberal Democrat
I never liked Hopper, even before I learned a decade ago what his politics were (he sold out in the 80's like a lot of his generation).

8. No that I don't know
i meant to imply he plays the same character over and over again-basically himself. just like Hopper. IMHO, they are both no talent hacks who have a lot more money than I do. They just know how to market their no talent.

I have no interest in the politics of either.

9. Oh, okay.
I don't think Nicholson is THAT much of a hack. He has a great interesting, expressive face, one that I enjoy watching, and that's important to me.

Though I get your point about the similarity of his roles...

... putting Dennis Dumbass Hopper in the same league with Nicholson? No way.

Nicholson plays the same character that I will grant you. It just happens to be an interesting character. :)

10. I have never understood how Hopper gets ANY work as long...
as Harry Dean Stanton is still alive.
Hopper has never been a very good actor. You would think that someone who has been doing it since he was a kid would be better. Not Hopper. Lack of talent, I guess.

11. Dennis is a gifted comedian, as witness his work in Blue Velvet
It's a pity he's unintentionally funny, but I'm not ashamed to laugh at him. He has his moments. I loved him in Apocalypse Now. He was so goddamned annoying that I wanted to kill him myself.

I'll second Harry Dean Stanton as a much better actor.

I think he is a decent actor and I really don't make it a habit of liking a person's art based on their political beliefs.

23. I wish I could that...but finding
out that someone supports Bush is a total deal breaker for me. It's just too important right now. I really feel the Bushies are ruining our country. So, try as I might, knowing that someone supports this regime kills my enthusiasm for their work, whatever it is. Writing, music, acting. I make one exception: Robert Duvall.
But, it's pretty easy doing without most Republicans. I mean, how hard is it to give up Bo Derek, Drew Carey, Patricia Heaton, Ricky Schroeder, or Ron Silver?
Now boycotting Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, and Matt Damon would be much harder.

17. It's always disappointing when you find out
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 10:07 PM by Liberalynn
a celebrity you like is Repuke. I love the old series "Profiler" not only because Julian Mcmahon is in it, but it was a great show and I liked all the characters.

But I recently read Robert Davi is a repuke, and it made me go YUCK. I will still like his character of Bailey but it was definitely kind of a let down to read about his Repuke views in real life.

19. I didn't know that
I've liked him in one movie and not another, as I remember. I get disappointed when a singer, author, actor or actress I like is a Repuke, and MOST disappointed when a celeb is a crush. I had a crush on former VJ Kennedy until I found out she's a Repuke (though she's more open-minded than some - especially on social issues.) Until she sees the light more, she'll continue to not be a crush.

Meanwhile, I didn't get rid of all my Mary Higgins Clark books, but I haven't gotten another one. I like her writing, but have other authors to enjoy.

Fortunately, many of my crushes are known Democrats. And I have hints about some others. A few hints: Colleen Haskell once did an anti-Bush skit on Letterman. Zooey Deschanel's mom donated to two Democrats (found this out at newsmeat.com.) Lauren Woodland from Young And The Restless participated in a Rock The Youth Vote rally (was non-partisan, but still.)

20. At one point
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 08:20 AM by Liberalynn
I used to rush out to buy a new Mary Higgin's Clark book but when I read the one where the heroine was Rethuglican I haven't read one since.

I am more into Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb now any way. She's a much more exciting writer and I am pretty sure she's a Dem because of some of the stands she has had the character of Eve take in her "In Death" series.

I am still a big Hercules show fan, but I am a little less impressed with Kevin Sorbo than I was because of some things he's said on the issue of mixing religion and government. It seems to me that he doesn't see a problem with mixing them and I see a huge one, but who knows maybe I am just misinterpreting what he's been quoted as saying, or maybe he was misquoted. He did take on Ann Coulter once when he was on "Politically Incorrect" on another issue and I think I recall him saying on that show that his parents were both life time Democrats, but then I also read he is a Rush fan, so who knows? I think his wife might be "Rethug" from some of the comments that have been attributed to her and she may have influenced him, but again not sure, just a feeling I get after reading articles.

I know Julian Mcmahon is good friends with Robert Davi, but Julian's father was a liberal when he was Prime Minister of Austrailia, and from some of the comments Julian has made about how he views life in general, I think he's liberal in his thinking too.

Maybe it shouldn't matter to me about the celebs choice of political party but it does tend to bug me if their Repug. Their entitled to their views but I find for me personally I respect them a little less, just as I do when I find out an aquaintance in real life is.
