Say you have to be up and alert 4 hours from now
What do you do?

Sleep an uneasy one for 2-3 hours?

Just stay up all night?

Either way you will be drinking lots of caffeine eventually.

1. Think of it as a power nap.
A little nap helps, but if you go into deep sleep, you'll have a time trying to wake and stay awake.

2. Sleep for less than 45 minutes
then lots o' caffeine. More than 1 hour or less than 4 hours and you are screwed.

3. Take an aspirin, a hot shower, and have myself a 20 or 40 minute nap.
after reading a Tech Manual for an hour or so. No more than an hour-10; my sleep cycle works on increments of 20 minutes. The trick to avoiding "sleepiness" after a nap is to sleep through complete increments; so it would be a good thing to know how long your sleep cycle is. The aspirin is to open up the blood vessels and allow you to get more oxygen in your system; helps you get to sleep easier.

Wake up, cold shower, dress, have a V-8, some fruit and crackers, and perhaps a ham and cheese sandwich on the Midrats line, then go "on watch".

Above all, don't worry about not waking up. Your body will wake up at exactly the time you want if you set yourself to your sleep cycle.

That's what I used to do when I had the midwatch; the suckiest watch of them all.

4. If you can sleep now, and I mean immediately, do it

Get all the good sleep you can for a few hours.

If you're just going to roll around uneasily...then you might just have to stay up.

Energy drinks and coffee.

7. Well, it's a much more enjoyable outlet
than folding clothes until you fall asleep on the basket.
