What's the best way to get from Richmond, VA to Hatteras, NC?
Going there next week. What's the best route?

1. How about this route
I64-I664-168-158 to Kitty Hawk then once you get past Nags Head it's a beautiful, quiet ride down the National Seashore to Hatteras. If you hit Kitty Hawk early in the day before 9AM you miss all the beach traffic on the weekend. SO if you can leave Richmond early you have no traffic issues.

Others may go down 95 to 64 in NC and across Manteo to OBX.

2. Prettiest route is
I 95 to the 460 and to the 168 through Hampton (turns into another road)and to the 12 in North Carolina...mostly coast all the way...I LOVE THAT DRIVE :D

4. Yes!
Georgeous drive, not too long (comparatively)but you gotta get exact directions..there's a couple other roads in there.

5. Avoid ALL Hampton Roads traffic...
by taking 95 south to Va. route 35, 10 miles below Petersburg, 35 into NC, left on NC 158 at Conway, 158 the rest of the way to the Outer Banks.

35 and 158 are much prettier than any of the urban routes. But whatever you do, avoid the Hampton Roads bridge tunnel which can back up for hours.
