Futbol question:
So I'm watching soccer on Telemundo and I don't speak Spanish. Why is United States (Estados Unidos) abbreviated as "EE.UU." on the score reports? Where is the extra "E" and "U" coming from?

1. Here I come to save the day!
In Spanish when a noun is plural and is also abbreviated is gets doubled. This also applies to its corresponding adjective as well.

Estados Unidos will be EEUU.

Spanish call people from EEUU, estadounidenses. (roughly UnitedStatesans).
