Boy, doI miss the VIEW function DU had for a few days!

It was great, especially for the captioners who have no idea
if anyone is actually even reading our work . . . but for anyone
who takes pains to create good postings. I think it was a definite
morale booster and increased the quality of postings. We cared
about crafting a paragraph when we knew 100-150 people might
read even thought only 5-10 post replies. (These reflect the numbers
in the captioning threads, but maybe rather common.)

Anyone else miss it? What are other good reasons to urge
the Admin. reconsider or re-attempt?

2. There are lots of good reasons for views, but...

the thing is, it's now become obvious that the new software was a bit too top-heavy for the server they're using, and they're barely keeping DU2 afloat right now. (See Elad's announcement about the GD data loss today). They removed views and ratings to be less drain on the server. Seriously, the admins are working incredibly hard and are very stressed out right now about just keeping DU working at all. I think we should give them a break with our requests for certain features and give them our support as they continue to work their asses off (for no money, I might add.)

5. Hey, I understand. Didn't

mean to sound like a kid screaming for a new car while his family is living in the streets. Just want to make it known that VIEWS was felt to be important by a number of posters for a few good reasons. I never bitch about what's happening

Prolesunited started a DU2 Fund Drive last night and a lot of us just starting giving to our link to sanity as I call it!

I have every intention of transferring funds to DU, know they are working themselves silly trying to get this right. I like the view count, at least I know someone is reading what I've taken the time to write.

7. Well, the views function really played havoc on the system.....

so they had to get rid of it. Too many bugs.

BUT.....you gotta know that all those people you know that viewed your captioned masterpieces.......LOOK FOR SKIP FOX's brilliant posts!!! Indeed we do!!

You will have to just have faith that we are looking and appreciating your work. Like today, I loved the caption about Bush....and should have posted what I was thinking: you should send your stuff to Tina Fay!!! So she can prepare for SNL's news broadcasts when they go back live in the fall!!

the view function showed you how many views a thread had ... for example, a given thread might only have 5 replies but might have been "viewed" by 300 people ...

it was a nice feature ... too bad the software / hardware couldn't handle it ... perhaps someday the feature will return ...

It gives us the ratios of replies to lurks, very important in some instances.
