1. If I had a deck..
I would. If I knew someone with a deck.. I'd have them do readings on me all the time. :D

2. I had my cards read once.
Supposedly I got the card that meant marriage within a year. That was, um, 4 years ago, and I'm still single.

4. Never believe someone when they give you specific details.
It's just not in the cards that way. To make a specific prediction they either have to know you REALLY well or be lying out their ass.

3. I do.
Well, more like I CAN, not that I do regularly. It's a skill that requires practice.

What?

20. I have that deck -

TWO of them, actually. One I've had for 13 years, the other someone that had LIVED with me for 2 years (meaning he should have known!) sent me last year for Christmas.

I guess I must be meant to have that deck - both were gifts, 13 years apart. Sheesh...

I have another deck I have not worked with. I bought it in Kalamazoo last summer when I was home for a visit - and haven't looked at it since I've been back - pushing 1.5 years now. I couldn't even tell you for sure what it's called - but the word "Voyager" popping into my mind, so maybe that's it.

Anyway, I haven't done any spiritual work of any sort for a looooooong time. I am too scattered and have a severe lack of focus.

11. Doesn't really matter.
The decks are all pretty much the same, both with major and minor arcanas. The variety of decks is just a marketing ploy trying to cash in on the popularity of the occult. The Raider-Waite deck is just as good of a beginner deck as any. I like my Golden Dawn deck but there are a few out there by that title, so, eh.

13. A persons tarot deck also shows a part of them.
You show a part of you that most never see. People that Know me never would have guess my deck if they didn't see it!

15. Bah!
I've never been much for forms of external validation, not that that's what your describing, but a deck of cards chosen for style is pretty much just that, little more. What deck someone reads from is really inconsequential to the reading they may give and reliance on the deck, IMO, shows uncertainty with the read itself.

18. What difference does the deck make?
Seriously, what does one deck give you that the other can't? Let's assume that you may be more comfortable with one than another or that you may have your "paranormal spooge" on one more than another, thus facilitating a current with the "paranormal".

16. It isn't the deck, anyway
It's what you bring. I'm of the conviction that the cards are only a device for relaxing and concentrating the person who is looking to do an interpretation of a puzzle or problem.

The deck is filled with symbols that point at elements in our own unconscious mind(s). Actually, I was given my deck, it happens to be the Swiss (1JJ). I heard somewhere that one should not purchase one's own deck, but rather should have it given to you.

Whether or not it "works" is, I believe, subjective. Just like other such matters, ie philosophy or spirituality, if it works for you and helps you to grow, more power to you.

17. It is the deck that choses you!
You must be one with your deck. Youe energy and that of the deck must be one if you are to give the seeker the information to go down the right path!

21. I'm with you on that one.
I also believe that waiting around to have someone buy you your own deck is utter hooey. The deck doesn't care who bought it and it makes no difference once you've practiced reading where the deck came from in the first place.

Oh, and another thing, don't group Philosophy in the same category as these new-age studies. Philiosophers are learned and respected academics who deserve not to be classed with crystal ball seers and other charlatans. Will you put Plato and Aristotle in the same category as Rasputin? I think not.

23. I mean that a subjective experience
of matters concerning the "big picture" are evaluated on one's own response. Plato, Aristotle, Kant and Wittgenstein are all great but if they do not evoke a sublime response they will not help the individual to grow.

The same can be said of tarot, crystal-gazing or rune casting.

19. My Kabbalistic Studies Are With BOTA
So we use our own deck for meditation and NOT prognostication.

The BOTA deck is alot like Waite deck but no color. The act of coloring in the cards yourself helps imprint the information encoded in the cards.

31. I collect decks for the art.
The one I reach for first is my Aquarian Deck. I have an herbal tarot deck that is nice, and a Goddess deck I like quite bit but use only occasionally. I have several other decks but do not work with them--including a cat tarot that is really cute but useless except as a fun time and curiosity.

My first deck was the tradtional Rider Waite deck and I used it for a few years then saw my first Aquarian deck and bought it right away. The Rider was a gift and I really didn't care for the colors in it.

My next acquisition will be a Palladini. I love the art and can hardly wait to get one!
