Pick one year from your life, and add something to the time capsule:
The only rule is that it has to be from a year in which you have lived.

It can be something historical, something from the news, something about entertainment, sports, literature, or something from your own life.

I pick 1976, and a photo I made of my favorite teacher, Mr. Baker.

But if I were to pick something everyone knows about, I'd pick 1986, and this cover of Time magazine:

4. Aug 16th 1977
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 10:10 AM by auntAgonist
The day Elvis Presley died. We were out to dinner, dessert was served and a diamond ring was presented along with a marriage proposal from my now ex husband.

1983 May 23: my one and only biological child arrived.

5. Wow. Eventful day.
What would you put into the time capsule? The ring? A newspaper clipping? A copy of your divorce decree?

6. 1994...
And I'd insert a bumper sticker for station KHOT 106.7 (Hot 106.7) in Springfield, Missouri. That was my favorite station of all time, and it went on the air in 1994.

For something EVERYONE would know...I'd put in a Bill Clinton election poster!

9. 1996-
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 10:26 AM by Shell Beau
the year I graduated high school, the year I started college, the year my great-grandmother died, the year my grandfather died, and most importantly, the year my oldest brother was killed. I would put in the lock of hair that I have of his. It would bring back all of those memories of that year. That was the best year and the worst year of my life. It is the year that has changed me most!

11. Gosh. Two things that changed my life.

John Lennon's death in December of my senior year in high school.

And the night a few years ago when Mr. Heidi, who I was "seeing" at the time, pushed his pan of watercolors across the desk and said, "Do paint."

16. No, I took seventh grade art.
Then I became a journalist. I actually came to Europe for a writing sabbatical, then started painting. (I don't get that easily sidetracked anymore. ;) )

13. 1967, My Summer in San Francisco
My Aunt & Uncle got me a job as a camp counselor for 5 weeks in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

But for 2 weeks before and the 2 weeks after-I lived with them in San Francisco in their "Condo" ( before we had a term for it!)

For all you children it was.....
:hippie: :hippie: The Summer of Love :hippie: :hippie:
and The Haight was in bloom.

Met Joplin, The Quicksilver Messenger Service, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and Slick,Balens and the Airplane!

Can't forget the "House Band" of Golden Gate Park: The Dead!

27. It. Was. Amazing.
The Cold War was scary. The USSR was a REAL threat, and even their hockey team was seen as dangerous. It was a huge moment for Team USA. I'll never forget it. I'll probably hear Al Michaels' voice on my death bed -- that call, and "I tell you we're having an earthqua--" (1989 World Series).

Significant to me because it was the on the day after Kent State that I became politically active, joining a protest against the killings on the University of Missouri campus, where we took over McCallister Park and renamed it Peace Park, which it has remained to this day. I was nine years old at the time.

35. Year: 1991 (me), 1989 (history)
The year I graduated college, the year I went to live in the UK, which was a defining moment in my life. I was there, all alone at first, and had to find a job and housing AND make new friends all on my own. I proved to myself that I could do it, and that I could survive.

For the time capsule, I'd put in a piece of the Berlin Wall, which the people of Europe tore down in November, 1989
