BALTIMORE -- Remember mystery meat from the school cafeteria? Well, get ready for lab meat.

Researchers say they can grow meat cells in a test tube without a cow or chicken in sight.

University of Maryland doctoral student Jason Matheny is studying the lab meat techniques. Matheny predicts the first practical application will be for processed meat-like products similar to sausage or chicken nuggets.

But don't look for a lab grown T-bone anytime soon. Matheny says researchers have a long way to go before they'll be able to grow a steak or chicken breast.
