1. That stuff is manna compared to Marmite.

My ex grew up in London, and she used to eat this catshit-in-a-jar on toast.

Blecch!

6. It IS an acquired taste, but I acquired it since moving
to Australia 35+ years ago - it's definitely yummy on buttered toast or with slices of mature cheddar cheese on toast.

Don't spread it on too thick, though......

raised in London and lives in the states now and she used to miss the 'mites. I think it more readily available stateside now, though.

4. Tried it once.
Salty-nasty-yeasty. Bleah. I can still taste it, more than a decade later.

But Australians, I hear, are all ten feet tall and eat live crocodiles. A lot of 'em appear to enjoy this crap. They must know something I don't.

10. I always think of Men At Work when I hear this
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 06:06 PM by Montauk6
I'm from the Detroit area, and I remember at the time "Down Under" came out, my favorite sandwich was the hot vegetarian pocket sub at Little Caesar's Pizza (with a side of scrumptious Crazy Crust). It was so delicious! Lettuce, chopped onions, tomato and thick slices of cheese with this provocative vinaigrette dressing for good measure. It was great hot or cold.

So I always associated the song with this sandwich, only to hear years later that Vegemite is some odd pasty spread that sounds, quite frankly, about as appealing as Hawaiian poi (which I have tried and I did gag).

*sigh* Sometimes I really miss the 80s...
