they rely on tourism. this is a real economic blow to those people, who can't afford it.

3. This is horrendous. Where is
Puerto Adventuras? We always go to the other coast.

Those poor people.

5. They'll be back.
Those coastal Mexico towns and people are very resilient. I bet you'll be amazed at how quickly they are back in business. After Gilbert, Cozumel was back in business in only a few weeks, even though the press declared it "completely destroyed." You know the press focuses on the sensational. The pics are probably the worst of it, and other areas probably stood up to it. The hardest hit are generally the poor areas, where people livein tin or flimsy wood shacks. The more developed areas often have concrete buildings. The Red Cross in Mexico, as well as the government, are already sending relief supplies. Don't cancel plans if you had them. The best way to help is to go there and spend your money.

6. It will be fine by next year, just some trees missing.
They go through it a lot. When I first went I was shocked by the visible damage from the storm that hit the year before, that was over 10 years ago now.

The people are to die for? You make it sound like they are commodities made for your amusement. I love them.

7. commodities? hell no!
some of our best friends are now the Myan people after 6 years of traveling there. and i'm not talking about the "resort help" either. every year they invite us into their homes and we eat, talk and laugh with them.

we know their children and send them birthday gifts and exchange letters.

thanks for the insult though

8. I know you don't think that way, but it sounds bad.
Oh, really darling, you should go to Tulum, the people are just marvelous, to die for, they're so quaint and charming.

I had everything I had with me stolen from my tent on one trip, while I slept, but I still love the place and the people.
