1. Sorry to hear that,
Ever try Zicam? Stuff works great, I always keep a spare bottle at home. It stops a cold dead in its' tracks if you take it early enough...

3. don't get that in Germany
but I take something called Angocin. It helps also to stop the cold when taken at the first signs.

Fulda, Bad Hersfeld, Wildflecken and Frankfurt at Gibbs Kaserne.

I was in Berlin when the wall came down; we of course were on full alert, waiting for WWIII. Exciting and scarey...

16. Stationed only in Hessen,
Traveled a lot, all over Germany, Europe, North Africa and Southwest Asia at the time.

How long have you been in Frankfurt? The nite the wall came down, I remember a guy cross our check-point, he went to Mc D's and then went home. He brought me a Mc Royal mit kassa and a beer... what a nite that was.

18. I am in Frankfurt since almost 3 years
after the wall came down we moved to South Germany (Lake Constance) where I finished my school.

We went to the demonstrations in Leipzig. It was amazing how peaceful everything went in the end. There was one night when it could have turned nasty. Police and Army drove up but in the end there were too many people for them to do anything.

19. It was scary for us,
The week prior a couple of our Tac-sites got hit pretty hard by Spetznatz and Stazi, lost a couple friends. Everyone swore the USSR would fight rather than let East Germany go. Seemed like all that was unfolding.

You guys changed everything. Thank you for all that you and your friends did. Taking to the streets like that changed everything.

Needs to happen here...

20. it also became possible because of Gorbatschov
without him as number one of the USSR they would have fought. His politic of Perestroika made it possible for the East Germans to stand up.

I hope your cold goes away fast. Sleep well. You brought back a lot of interesting memories for me. I hope we get a chance to talk about those times again sometime. I really admire what you did back then...

Thanks for helping to make me feel welcome here... I think I have found a new home. Thanks..

9. Take your echinacea, MissHoneyChurch!
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 03:50 AM by Heidi
That's not medical advice (because echinacea is an herb, not a commercial pharmaceutical). It's just what I do when I'm getting a cold.

25. I have to put honey in mine
It seems to kill the bad taste, most of the time.

Also, I don't know if you can find it in Europe, but there's a plant called Golden Seal that helps shorten the length of colds. It's a yellow flower that prairie-dwelling Native Americans used for centuries to combat illness. Unfortunately, it too tastes horrible, but it really works.

Zinc is also good, too, so be sure to get plenty of that! :hi:

26. Take some Airborne or Emergen-C.
They really, really work. I take one of the two (or both) whenever I feel a cold coming on and the number of colds I get per year went from 3 or 4 to zero or 1.

28. Zinc, Vit C, Echinacin (I think there are pills too, not only drops),
And prepare something with Chilli - hot. Chillies are what Indians use when they have a cold. Works wonders on the sinuses. Very good remedy is home made chicken soup. Prepare it with chilli :) Ah yes, and a homeopatic nose spray. I'm an expert when it comes to colds.
Hope you get well real quick!
