2. Thought I couldn't either.
When I started realizing I was in control of my future, things changed. Might be different for others though.

4. Hey, have any old papers around?
Old bank statements? Credit card statements? Anything else you don't need?

Go to your fireplace and burn them. It will cleanse your soul and you will feel anew.

Writer.

5. That's a good idea for anyone.
I've kept old journals and old pictures of boyfriends, etc. I really should just burn them all.

For a long time now I've known that the past should be mostly forgotten, yet I dream about the past every single night. I have made an effort to go forward and leave the past behind, but it's hard considering I live in the small town where I was born.

I think I am going to have to leave in order to find peace. Plans will be made as soon as I am better physically. :)

current husband to transfer them to my computer in a file called LOSERS.jpg. It was a fun night.

Oh, and I had baby and toddler photos of my ex-husband and his deceased mother, father and aunt, since our divorce in 1971.

My husband put them together in a nice .jpg and emailed them to my ex. (This is a strange situation where my current husband gets along better with my ex-husband than I do.)

Then, I took the original photos and gave them to my daughter. She mailed them to her father. He responded positively to both gestures.

10. Just all the social problems I have had.
Especially as a young kid and even in recent years. My problems finding work. Though that is part of my present. Getting railroaded on teaching. The problems I have had with women. To name a few.

I know that a couple of years ago KC was begging for teachers. Might do you good to leave your town and look somewhere else for a new life.

25. Get hold of the book "What Color Is Your Parachute?" and do
the exercises the author suggests. It's a wonderful book with much information crammed inside.

Better yet, looks like Richard Bolles (the author) has a web site:

http://www.jobhuntersbible.com/

My husband and I have changed careers several times -- about 25 years at each one, off and on.

We're still exploring our lives at ages 66 and 71, as volunteers.

Wish you luck, colorado!

17. Roadtrip
Sounds like you need one. Riding on Greyhounds going to faceless cities was a part of my life for a number of years; melancholy meditation to me..

You need to go on the road; all it takes is a bus ticket and a backpack. Or a car and a little gas money...

21. I worked like a dog for 6 months at a time
I worked in Hotels for 60-70 hours a week, 6 days a week and saved all my money; once I got the itch, I took off and gave all my belongings away to friends and hopped on the Greyhound. First place that looked good I went; when I ran out of money I hopped trains or got a job in whatever city I was in at the time..

22. I got the urge for goin'
When the summer grass is turnin brown
When all the empires are turning down
Winters closin in......

Tom Rush......

Man, I have about ten boxcars of past slanging back o me....

Listen, you can't keep perserverating on the past cause the future will never come...

I quit drinking 22 years ago, blew the chance of a two lifetimes, careers, good careers handed to me and I blew them both, alientated almost every good woman I met, dissed my family, ruined my health and yet, I ended up in love, still alive and with a fair fair amount of respect in the politcal world.....

Satchel Paige said it best....

Don't look back, someone might be gaining on you.....

24. Yep
Tom Rush is great, BTW...

I spent about 10 years on the road between Greyhound and the trains; staying in flophouses and drinking and writing. Even though some of the times were unbearably sad, I never regretted any of it; it was something I needed to do to become who I am..

I wish I had done it more.....

I ended up in Salem Oregon working the strawberry ptches with the Vietnamese boat people......

Of course there was that downward spiral after that that landed me two steps away from the high level bridge...

But that's a different story....

29. coloradodem, sorry you don't have money --
nothing saved? All tapped out? Here's my story in 1970 and 71 --

I ended up with a husband living with another woman, and telling me after nine years of marriage that he didn't love me anymore --

Got in my car with two children, ages 1 and 2, and all the disposable diapers I could carry in my Volvo --

Drove from Miami, Florida to a small town in the mountains of North Carolina.

Rented a small apartment, went to a religious service and prayed really hard (I was down to my last $85!).

One of the businessmen in town took pity on me and gave me a job as a cashier.

Made ends meet until I got a hold of my self respect. Went back to Florida, filed for divorce -- then met some of the nicest men I'd ever met. Eventually married again in 1973 -- a man who is still the best (step)father two kids could have ever wanted!

Good jobs came my way, too.

I wish you lots of love and life up ahead. Keep us posted if you can.

In peace,

Radio Lady
