Name Something Unusual About Yourself.....
Ok, this is kind of weird. I am obsessive compulsive. So some things I just don't like, for example, I can't stand the sight of mustard or ketchup. I also do the standard stuff of washing my hands all the time and tapping things, or I have to do everything in even numbers, except for the number one which is the only odd number I can stand.

But here is the really weird one:

I can't stand monkeys! Every time those creepy little fuckers show up on a tv screen I have to turn away. I can't even look at one. I couldn't so much as take a drink of water if a monkey was on the tv screen. I'm not scared of them, nothing like that. They just weird me out. I'm getting the willies just typing this.

But that is the unusual thing about me.

(coincidentally Bush - another monkey as well- gives me almost the same reaction)

1. Unusual
hmmm....I can pick up any instrument, and if I can get music out of it, can play a tune. Did this one time when I tried a dulcimer for the first time. I was sitting on the sidewalk, trying it out, and people stopped to give me money! But don't ask me to read music-it is a long a painful process by comparison.

TV show on one of the network stations (back in the 70s) where chimpanzees were dressed up and talked. I think that it was called "Lancelot Link".

If you were an "evil" or vindictive person, if he ever got you really mad, one of these DVDs would make a great gift:

or underwater. I can't go in caves, or ship holds, basements without windows, etc. I can swim underwater, I'd love to scuba sometime, but would never get in a submarine conscious. I can't stand to watch archeologists go into caves or pyramids on tv, especially caves.

It was triggered when I was about 25, and went into the cargo hold of a ship docked in Sault Ste. Marie. It was hugh, but below the waterline. I quietly panicked, and climbed out.

I'm terrified of elevators, I'll start hyperventilating when I get on one. I keep thinking that I am going to get stuck (not good when you have an overactive bladder) or the elevators going to break and fall to the bottom.

The most horrifying thing I ever saw on television was some miners lying down on a flat cart to go down into a mine that was only a few feet high. AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

That would drive me absolutely freakin' crazy! I always have this image that I get stuck between some rocks and my air supply runs out.

Also, the thought of being stuck in a chimney or another tight space gives me the chills.

I also have a phobia about being in the middle of the ocean by myself and not knowing what is beneath me.

I use to never have a problem with them until this past winter. It's a long story but it involves me, a busted pipe, a few feet of snow on the ground, and some flying rats coming at me like something out of Birds. I wouldn't say I'm afraid of them but I know I act weird when they are around.

those kinds that you see on the ceilings at home are the ones that freak me out the most. I can't even stand to look at one, especially at night. I have one in the kitchen and I don't like it. I have nightmares of them as well. I just hate hooks

I also hate balloons, can't be in a room with them or have a little kid play with them. And I don't like parasitic worms or worms in general.

Example: I have a dear friend with whom I keep up a conversation by e-mail. Well, once I didn't hear for a quite a few days from her, and it wasn't her usual style. I knew she was going on a trip to a lake with her mother, and I wound up searching two different online newspapers for reports of boating accidents. I even checked the obituaries in her hometown newspaper. Yes, I have a truly dark imagination.

Oh, and my friend? She's fine. She and her mother had a great time.

28. When I was a teenager I taught myself a foreign language...
I bought books with my babysitting money, then some linguaphone tapes. I got really good at this language, even though I'd never met anyone else who spoke it. In college I translated poetry and plays from this language. Then, after college, I finally went to the country where this language is spoken.

I didn't like it all that much, actually. People weren't all that friendly.

After I came home, I never looked at my language books or tapes again. I totally forgot this language. Today, I can maybe say hello in it, but that's it.

It or Not cartoon (in a compilation book) showing somebody who could do it as some kind of really unusual freak. I thought everybody could.

Check back; I'll actually try it again before the editing hour expires on this post. I have to wash my hand with soap beforehand and am not terribly anxious to get that soap taste in my mouth immediately.

Edit: I can still do it, but it's really uncomfortable. That may have something to do with the cucumber melon body wash, though. I could never get it in all the way to the wrist; I suspect that's what got the guy into Ripley's.

When I do, it absolutely repels my two sisters. A good, crusty Italian bread, real parmesan cheese (not the 'Kraft" junk). Cooked well it is quite enjoyable. An aquired taste. Does that count?

70. What's the difference?
The links I found through google seem to define 'eidetic memory' as 'photographic memory'

Cool, though. How 'well' does yours work? I mean, there are degrees of it, right?

71. Aughr. A lot of links I went to defined them the same way. Grrrr.
I wish I hadn't just encountered a lot of reputable databases with inaccurate information about this. People with photographic memory can retain, depending on how well-defined this trait is, sometimes near-perfect recollection of people, places, objects and information for lengthy periods of time (allegedly, years--I've never met anyone who considered him or herself to have photographic memory so I've never seen it demonstrated). Eidetic memory is sort of like the short-term version of photographic memory. Sort of. I can retain a decent to large amount of information about people, places, things, etc. for short periods of time after encountering them in extremely precise detail. Like, I can look at a fifteen-ingredient recipe for a minute or two and remember the ingredients and most of the instructions for a few hours. If it's something I've had a chance to look at or read and absorb for awhile, I can remember more of it for much longer periods of time. Sometimes I think of it as having a photographic memory with a "fuzzy lense." I will find myself able to remember many details about complex areas, ideas, people (I am one of those folks who never forgets a face) for months and sometimes years with a lot of precision. It's nothing like what I've heard those with true photographic memory can do, but it's definitely useful. The only thing it never helped me very much with was my math. I'm not very good at math.

114. I can spout the states and their capitals in alphabetical order from
A-Z and Z-A even after 5 beers.

I can also count down from any given number at random. I have always had an obsession about studying maps so I know where everything is. I was fun for trivial pursuit parties and bar bets because of this. I've never met anyone else who could do it. They used to call me some type of geographical savant. LOL
I haven't thought about it in years because I just don't go out anymore.

That is one aspect of my weirdness.

117. I hate it when big planes fly over my house. Freaks me out.
Not jetliner-big, just corporate jet-big. A local non-commercial airport is near my house, and it seems the traffic has increased, although they've promised to stay non-commercial I can't help but wonder. Maybe there are just more plane owners.

But anyway I have a terrible fear that one of them's going to fall right out of the sky on my house one day.
