Andy the Right Wing Republican is, believe it or not, a swell guy
Longtime DUers have heard me talk about Andy -- his politics are somewhere to the right of Alley Oop's, but we've been friends and political adversaries for over a decade now and we'd do anything for one another save vote the same way.
Andy is also a whiz at building computers. He just got done putting one together by himself which cost him about 4K in parts and is similar to ones selling on EBay for twice as much. This would be the third or fourth one he's built over the past four years and, needless to say, he has accumulated a buttload of computer parts from the previous models -- all of which are obsolete by his standards and good as gold by mine.
I have an old Compaq I bought in 2001. It has a (no kidding) 7 gig hard drive and is the computer equivalent of a Model T Ford.
Anyhow, Andy told me at the beginning of the month that if I bought a case and another (80 gig) hard drive, he'd put a new computer tower together for me out of the extraneous parts he has at his house.
He started on it yesterday and it is finished, except for a couple parts he has to hijack out of my current tower. So he's on his way over and I will be offline for a couple hours while he finishes putting the new one together.
Total cost to me: $98.63 for the case and the hard drive (via newegg.com). Oh, and Andy's even bringing over the beer to swill while we finish up.
I'll be online 'til he gets here then I'll be offline for awhile. Ask me anything -- but do it quick!
John
If you go to the link in my sig line and call up "FUNDAY XI photos," Andy's the guy standing second from the left in the second photo, second row, second page. That's me next to him.

5. We've got a slight delay here
I need my Windows ME install disc and can't find it. Truth is, I haven't seen it in four years or so.
John
Will keep on looking.
