When it comes to Charlie and the chocolate factory
So far it seems I'm in the minority.

I though it was "meh". Depp was his excellent self but the Ommpa Loompas were a pain in the loving ass. The children were horrible and boring. . . and boy did the new Ommpa songs just flat out suck. All in my humble opinions of course.

on the plus side. . . The settings and backgrounds were fantastic and were a visual treat. . . and like I said Depp was his original self. I just couldn't truly get into it. . . in fact it came off as "corny and cheesy" at times to me.

Christoper Lee was nice in his very small role... but I usually enjoy lee regardless.

So I get it an "Meh, Okay" but nothing more than that. Really wasn't all that great.

However since the majority have seen to enjoyed it. . . I wouldn't say not go see it. . . as chancess are you probably will like it. Just I guess I'm one of those it didn't click with "shrugs".

On a side note: I'm interested in seeing Corpse Bride though heh :).

1. I loved it, but I can see why it's not everyone's piece of cake.

Mr. kt liked it ok, but not as much as me. It was a bit too dark and he knida thought Depp, one of our favorite actors :loveya: seemed a bit pervy.

2. my first imax movie (warning, possible spoilers)
imax RAWKS!

i did think it was a treat for the sense and while i'm actuall not a depp fan and would have guessed him miscast, i do think he did a great job in helping to deliver a burton vision of wonka and his factory.

however i did think some of the 'self-aware / hey look i'm making a movie' kind of humor got annoying to the extent that it started to take away from the story-telling.

i was told that this was closer to the book but it is NOT. they left out a few things that were in the first movie. it's been eons since i read the book, but i certainly don't remember anything about wonka and HIS father.

also, i think the way charlie 'won' was far better in the original. this time -- especially with the jokes about the oompa-loompa lyrics, it makes it seem that wonka knew all along that charlie would win -- BECAUSE HE SAW THE ORIGINAL MOVIE. very annoying.

nevertheless, a treat for the senses, and i recommend it, find an IMAX theater, it's worth the drive.

3. I thought it was fun
I love Depp and all his eccentricities.

I got stuck in the very first row. (We were late) I got a crik in me neck, but I found myself fascinated by JD's purty mouf. Those white shiny teeth and those lips...

When he got that devious "shit happens" look on his face, it made me all melty.

Just don't go to it and compare it to the original movie or it will spoil all the campy fun.

5. I really dug the flick
but felt the Wonka flashbacks, while interesting, through off the pacing of the movie for me a little bit.

Other from that Depp was fantastic, creepy and funny. I thought the Oompa Loompas were good and most of the kids did not detract from the movie. Mrs. Bouregard was the creepiest of the visitors though, Those eyes.

Tim Burton once again proved himself a visionary in terms of the look of his films. This ranks third for me in terms of Burton's films, behind Batman and Big Fish.

6. I did really like it
I liked the new take on Violet Beauregard-I think she was much more deserving of getting her "reward" than in the original. Same with Mike Teevea.
Visual representation and cinematography was great. Just what I would expect from Tim Burton.
OompaLoompas were great-all one guy-but their songd did suck though. All but Mike Teevea's song. I did like that one.
And I especially liked the new ending.
