2. Nothing much unless you are a sports fan
And that's the only reason why I still have cable television.

4. You could have gone hiking whether you gave up TV, or not.

8. But you don't know what you're missing
"It Came From Beneath The Sea" is on. It's about a giant octopus that attacks San Francisco.

B-)

Maybe it's just the station logo eating San Francisco?

13. To be honest
I do have a TV and a subscription to Netflix. I enjoy a good movie. I have no Patience for broadcast TV or Cable. When Starz and Showtime started putting logos over the movies that's when I said fuck it and turned the cable off.

5. I kind of dissed tonight's episode on another thread, but...
the Battlestar Galactica remake is one of the hottest shows on television right now. The first season was a stroke of genius.

Starbuck's a woman now. That in itself was a really smart move, IMO. I heard about that change, said, "whaaaaaa....?", watched it... and was just stunned.

I do like Battlestar, but I felt a little let down by tonight's episode. It didn't seem to resolve the cliffhanger ending from last season very conclusively at all. But then, perhaps there won't be a real resolution until near the end of the entire series.

It's that kind of show. Extremely well-done. Catch it if you can.

7. Nothing at all
I grew up without a TV, and don't think that I missed much then, either. I've got a tiny one in my studio that I use for watching Netflix movies. I sometimes listen to Oprah or stuff on the WB while I work, but I always get up or turn it off during commercials. I just HATE network television (and I don't have cable).

10. South Park, Daily Show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sea Lab,
Robot Chicken and not a whole lot more. Oh wait, there was the Puppy Bowl on animal planet. But that is it. The rest I am sure you don't miss.

12. Not much.
I haven't had cable in years, but I love Lost, The Simpsons, Survivor, CSI, and CSI: New York. I also liked the episode of House I caught this summer, but I think I have all the TV habit I can handle, even without cable.

15. Three series filmed in Hawai'i
"Hawaii" (NBC) and especially "North Shore" (Fox - duh!) sucked big time, but at least you could get an 'aina fix. ABC's "Lost" is still very much around -- but it isn't set here; you just have to imagine yourself telling the castaways, "Gunfunnit, you baboozes! There's a city bus stop right behind you!" No, really, there is, right where they film it at Mokule'ia on O'ahu's North Shore (though the survivors would have to transfer twice to get to Waikiki :-) )

16. is that before or after the last episode of "Friends"?
Did you hear that Tom Cruise got engaged, and did you see him jumping up and down on Oprah's couch?

How can you live without this stuff?

22. Jon Stewart!
I went w/o TV for 2 years. I quit in Mar '03, same day as the war in Iraq started. It was a coincidence at the time, but started to look like a protest or soemthing after awhile.

Anyway, after 2 yrs, I started it up again bcs my mom came to live with me in May-Jun and she's a TV junkie.

Near as I can figure, the only thing you are missing is Jon Stewart's Daily Show.

Can I get that online somehow? If so, I'll probably cancel cable again. It's the only reason I haven't canceled it again.

28. I agree with you about TDS!
After last weeks shows, I will either Tivo it or watch religiously. Luckily it is on twice a day, so catching it is not that hard.

TDS Rocks! :headbang:

I haven't had a TV in my house since since I moved out of my ex-wife's house in August 2003. (partly because of the TV.)

I only watch about 10 channels. I can't bring myself to give up TCM, the greatest movie channel in the world.

26. I've thought about it.
I wish I could just pay for that channel. The silent movies, the short features btw movies, the obscure movies they dig out from the 30's, I just love the channel.

I absolutely love documentaries. That's mostly what I've ordered so far...that and Mel Brooks movies. :D Hehe.

29. I'm thinking of dumping my cable too
I can get updates on tornadoes via the radio or net, and, thanks to DU, apparently I can see Daily Show through the torrent networks (yes? no?).
I may keep basic if CSPAN is included. Otherwise I'm quite happy just having Netflix...
