Go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

I saw it tonight, and it was hilarious and amazing! I think I'm in love with Johnny Depp.

Was really great. Danny Elfman surpassed himself. Charlie reminded me of Christian Bale as Jimmy in Empire of the Sun. Bodes well for his career... in the long run.

but on the whole, a great movie. i really enjoyed the christopher lee aspect. but i was kinda frightened by the Michael Jackson man-boy aspect of Wonka.

20. I loved that first movie too, but...

this one is actually better in many ways.

Except for a tacked on flashback subplot, it's very close to the book. Plus it doesn't have those **dreadful** musical numbers that almost ruined the Wilder version (except for the Oompa Loompa songs, which are redone by Danny Elfman in the new one).

This one was directed by Tim Burton and is actually much more visually inventive. Johnny Depp played a very different character from Gene Wilder, but was every bit as interesting. Charlie's family and house and better, and are British, which is an improvement too.

My first reaction was like yours. Go watch the trailer! It changed my mind and I went to watch the movie my kids yesterday.

The first one had a few scary moments.

She does scare fairly easily...so IMHO this movie is suitable for most preschoolers.

No problems. I'd certainly say though "it depends on the kid". It might be too much for some little ones, but my little guy, upon coming out of the movie, said, "That was the best movie I ever saw!"

Double feature - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory followed by War of the Worlds

All three of us enjoyed Charlie. There was enough humor aimed at the adults to make it really entertaining.

Daughter went to sleep after Charlie (in the car). Mr KW and I sat outside and watched War...I preface this by stating that I would not have gone to see War of the Worlds, but since it was part of the double features, we stayed.

War had good special effects, but I thought the plot was really weak. Tim Robbins plays a rather interesting character in the film, but as far as Tom Cruise's acting (he acts?), meh.

16. We liked it.

The Belle kids have seen the first one (and myself and my older two have read the book) and they thought it was better than the original. Depp portrayed it differently (more tongue and cheek than serious), but the humor, music, and special effects alone were pretty darned good.

And I liked the movie. I think Tim Burton was a good choice to remake it because of his edge. It had to be different than the first and it was. Depp was great.

My daughter was disappointed that the Umpa Lumpa song was not in it, other than that, two thumbs up!
