Put ICE on your cell phone
Mobiles 999 contact idea spreads
"A campaign encouraging people to store personal details on their mobile phones to help identify victims of accidents and disasters has taken off since the bomb attacks in London.

Users are being urged to enter a number in their phone's memory under the heading ICE - In Case of Emergency.

Paramedics or police would then be able to use it to contact a relative.

The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May..."

Seems like a great idea to me!

1. Great!
Especially the indication in the story that it's starting to catch on here, too. :)

I'd do it.

2. I'm posting the article everywhere I post
I think its brilliant and it works for any situation where the phone owner cant communicate. The potential for speeding up notification of family members is great...

3. Will the data be locked and only available to proper authorities?
If phone gets stolen or misplaced what happens?

4. Well...
Say if my phone were stolen, and someone dialed my "ICE" contact, they'd get my husband. They'd know his work and cell numbers ... the same info that's on his business cards.

7. Is there a way to lock the phone via another phone if 1st phone is lost?
If not that should be a feature included so that it is worthless to steal cell phones.

6. Well so I should leave it unlocked so someone can steal all my info

8. Hmmm...a valid point.

I routinely leave my phone off, not on, unless I'm actually making a call (or I'm traveling) and I do use the Lock feature.

So how would the authorities GET to my "ICE" entry even if I made one?

I think the manufacturers need to get the auto-programming done for ICE entries so they display outside the locked entries.

9. I wear a Medic Alert for a medical condition, my healthy son
will be getting one soon for ID alone.

No personal identity info directly on it; the number has to be called, but since I'm never without it, I feel quite reassured.

10. I've tattoed my SSN on my forehead
Also on each limb and eight times on my torso. If I ever get blowed up I want them to find my body.
