1. I recommend you rent the 1954 Akira Kurosawa movie "Seven Samurai"

too - its plot is the basis for the later western. Interesting to see how the two directors developed the stories to suit their very different times and societies - and yet there are issues in common between medieval Japan and the lawless American early west.

Great fun to see a young Toshiro Mifune in this classic movie. (Images may take a few seconds to load.)

2. Both are awesome....

There's nothin' better than a good western. Problem is that there's so damned few of 'em ... good ones that is.

The Wild Bunch is a must see. I can think of several others ... just not the titles.
