4. Me too.
I'm just in this great mood because I went out shopping for henna for my hair? Anyway I went to this health-food store I used to think of as, you know, "snooty". Anyway, I realized I was COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY LIBERALS! And I felt so great & so fearless, I wanted to publicly break into song.

It's no nice go somewhere and have very few Republicans. It's nice to be able to do that here in Texas. Austin really is an oasis.

27. As I saw this topic,
"Right Turn" by Alice in Chains started playing on my playlist.

Inside always trying to get back inside
But it's so hard to penetrate pig-thick skin

I'm 'bout as low as I can get
I'd leave but I can't forget
Still I wonder why it ain't right, mmm it ain't right, oooh
Ain't right, mmm it ain't right, yeah

'Bout as low as she can get
She'll leave me but she won't forget
And she wonders why she ain't right, she ain't right
Ain't right, she ain't right

Now we're as low as we can get
Can't leave and can't forget
We ain't right, we ain't right
Not right, we ain't right

Well it's hard to believe that somebody tricked you
when you can see you were only high
It's all up to you so you gamble
flat on your face and into the fire

:hi: Just struck me as funny.

29. I LOVE Alice in Chains!
They remind me of my darker days in Alaska. When I worked in an isolated fishing lodge with 5 other people, and we all got cabin fever.

Does that group remind you of anything specific? It just seems to be the way they are.

:hi: back, btw. :)

30. Actually, yes.
I used to hate them, with a passion.

I was a young teen when my mom was with a man who was a narcissistic, mean drunk. He would get shit-faced every night and blast the stereo in the living-room, keeping all of us kids awake even though we had to go to school. Keeping my mom up when she had to work. And it was always, always Candlebox or Alice in Chains. I used to sit there so pissed off. And just hated hated hated the music.

A few years later, after my mom left him... I heard them on the radio. "Don't Follow". I had an epiphany, or whatever, lol. I realized that I had projected my hatred for this man onto this music that was just so good, and from then on out I have been in love with them. I learned to play "Would" on the bass. It's the only song by them I can play, lol. Talented friggin band, man. Plus I just love the grunge sound. Staley had an awesome voice, and putting Staley and Cantrell together just made for the best vocals I have ever heard in my life. I have immense respect for these musicians.

So, with this day and age when all we seem to hear on the radio anymore are the same 4 chords in every song by every band, I have kept the radio off and stick by what I know to be good. And Alice in Chains will probably always remain my favorite band.

31. That's why you and I can accurately describe them as "haunting"
that voice takes me back to where I've been and makes me re-live details I'd forgot. Your story's amazing, too. Isn't it weird how they bring back these "trapped" memories, but we love them just the same?

32. It is weird!
I think it was all a part of my "healing process"- that whole situation left me kind of messed up for awhile! Everytime I listen to them, it's just emotional... not in a bad way, not in a good way, just raw emotion. I friggin love it! :7

34. That's also the way I feel about Henry Rollins
and Tom Waits and Portishead. Complete fascination, and their ability to transposrt me into another time in my life. With Portishead, it was a time I was travelling with my ex, road-tripping everywhere, and making the best of our survival skills.

35. Lol. I have a few others that do that for me, too
I love how music does that for me. NIN "The downward spiral" brings me to jr high, where my (then) best friend and I felt like we had only eachother. Lifehouse brings me back to the first time I tried to date a girl instead of the usual guys. She broke my heart. Memories, :7. Needless to say, there are some songs I can't listen to while drinking, and others that greatly enhance the happy drunken experience!

Never been right and never will be.

I did get my taste of conservatism when I went through my Islam phase but I found out that I am actually more liberal than the ultracons that surrounded me.

Anyways, I'm glad you're in a good mood today Sugar Smack. I couldn't say the same about me. I didn't sleep well last night, My CPAP machine isn't working and I gotta take it in. That and I kept having muscle spasms early in the morning.

45. Awwwww!
( have you seen my brain, BTW? I think menopause snuck off with it!)

I have actually had something quite miraculous and wonderful happen. I set all the kids on chores - washing the siding on the trailer, boxing up some junk, cleaning out the stuff in a car that I am sick of looking at and will have hauled off Monday). Well, my son comes in from the car and says "antigone382 said you would be happy to have this" ( he used her Sister name, not her DU name, but anyhoo...)

I almost screamed and jumped for joy.

What was it?

A round metal cookie tin, maybe 12 inches diameter, red with Currier and Ives design on top. What's in it? 25 years+ of cookie cutters I thought had been lost forever!!!!!!!There is one that was my Grandmother's. Many that I bought kids over the years - Shape of continental US, dinosaur, horses, puppy-shaped, you name it.

I had taken them to someone's restaurant when she needed some help ( I was baking and stocking her cookie shelves to help increase sales) and I thought they were lost since she ended up tanking on alcohol and her restaurant was closed.

But now they were in that old Nissan ( it died coming up the mountian one day) all this time! I really missed them this past Christmas, so i am thrilled. A small thing, but there are years of memories in those cookie cutters!

Thanks for asking and hope I didn't bore you. I lurveya Sugar Smack!!!

I'm telling you, I LOVE that shit- coming across something a little precious. AND, I have a really huge taste for the absurd. I love the absurd, and I love it when weird stuff happens. You know what my friend and I saw the other day? Someone's shoes being carried up into the stratosphere by a bunch of mylar balloons! It was just a prank, but it was funny as hell.

The cookie cutters remind me of what it's like to dig through a time capsule.

How nice for you.
