Hitler Rd. residents get strange looks (Circleville Ohio)
http://www.boston.com/news/odd/articles/2005/06/23/hitler_rd_residents_get_strange_looks/

June 23, 2005

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio --Larry Harris is used to the confusion when he tells people he lives on Hitler Road.

The Hitlers were a well-known farm family in Circleville. Longtime resident Idabelle White said she wishes the road names could be changed, but that she wouldn't want to offend the family's descendants.

George Hitler Jr. says family members who moved away from Circleville faced harassment. His father became an executive at Firestone tire company in Akron and the company president asked him to change his name. He refused.

1. I heard a rumor once about a guy named Hitler
Sometime before WWI a man named Adolph Hitler joined the Army. Well this guy was still in the Army when he was in his 60's when Adolph Hitler of Germany declared war against the United States. When asked if he'd change his name he answered "I had before he did so he can change his."

2. Hitler's actual nephew served in the US Navy in WWII

And fought against his uncle. I think they changed their names though and took an oath to not continue the family line.

4. that is true
his nephew became an anti-nazi and moved to the US, where he joined the US Navy, but he served in the Pacific theater.

The descendants of Hitler did make a pact not to have any children.

3. Seems unfair
IIRC from genealogy research, Circleville is home to an established German community from the early 1800's, well before WWII.

8. I wrote a story when I was younger about a good kid who is
stuck with the name Hitler. He was nice and cool and friendly, but his life was fucked up because of something as stupid as a name---no girls would date him, kids wouldn't hang out with him ---etc. Bob Hitler. At the end of the story, he meets a beautiful girl named Jessica Stalin.

I was like 13 when I wrote it. I was feeling "left out" myself at the time
