2. How many times was Burton nominated?
Should have won it for "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf".
He was stellar in that role.

3. I thought O'Toole was great in King Ralph.
:P

Seriously, he was AWESOME in Becket and the Lion in Winter. I haven't seen a lot of his other films, but I just wonder to what kind of performances did O'Toole lose to when he was nominated for those movies?

9. My favorite O'Toole movie is High Spirits
with Beverly DeAngelo, Daryl Hannah, Steve Guttenburg, and Liam Nielson. Fake haunted castle in Ireland that turns out to be a real haunted castle. Very campy but lots of fun.

15. Thankyou Kathy, I stand corrected
However, in my humble opinion he is the least recognized Actor with the greatest talent ever to grace the silver screen. And his Salad dressing is quite nice.

20. I agree. And he's quite easy on the eyes-even at 80 years old.
I like his salad dressings too. His line now includes organic pet foods made with Bell & Evans Chicken.

22. And the proceeds go to charity
Cool Hand Luke
Hud
The Verdict
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (make Liz Taylor look good)

The guy is awesome.

Actually I'd rather he not gotten that Oscar so I could whine louder.

He and Jack Nicholson are the best pure actors ever. (in my oh so humble opinion.)

Plus, I smell an Emmy for her work in "The Shield."

16. Brando won
He just sent a bogus "Native American" lady to tell the Academy to stuff it. Sasheen Littlefeather, I think she called herself. It was for his role in "The Godfather."

He was so cool. And so damaged.

I met him once. He was beyond sweet.

Personally, I can't believe Madonna didn't even get nominated for "Evita."

Waterfront.
I was thinking about Elia Kazan when reading another thread about directors. He was the director of On the Waterfront. For years, I didn't understand the movie. Why did the longshoremen want to be D and D? Only in recent years, have I come to understand it was about Kazan's experience in the blacklist years.
Also when reading about the directors, I thought of Steven Spielberg. Like most of the world's population, I have seen many Steven Spielberg movies. But, I have never seen one that had any real punch to it. Even Schendler's List didn't seem that biting. My late wife was Jewish, so I had a reason to be empathetic to anti-Semitic themes. Maybe life has been too easy for Spielberg.

Bet you he'll get a lifetime achievement award, but not until he's gone.
