Need some facts on laws.
Okay, two friends of mine were caught, for a second time in less than a year, with marijuana in their car.

In Kentucky the punishment for a second offense is 1 to 5 years. What I want to know is if this is a mandatory minimum, or if it is still just recommended, and whether there are other options. They are understandably reticent on the issue, and I don't want to bring it up.

I'd appreciate anyone with some info. They already have a lawyer, but don't want to talk about it at all.

1. Before anyone else bothers to say it...
They already have a lawyer, so let the lawyer handle it.

Unless we're talking a guy who shouldn't be a member of the bar association, he'll know the answer to this question and aim for the lowest possible penalty, citing prison crowding and other issues.
