as requested by VelmaD: "Mars Needs Women"..the musical!
Yes, VelmaD, it was a musical, and it was howlingly funny.

We open on a sparsely furnished outdoor stage, entering center stage a jolly round little lady in a cotton dress wearing a hat..decidely '50 s styling.

After introducing herself as "MeeMaw"(one of Hip Pocket's most beloved stock characters), she began to tell us about "Mars Needs Women", and how she had seen it about a million times because MeeMaw has arthuritis and every time it gets her up in the night, that movie is what's on TV.

So we are going to watch the movie with MeeMaw..and she tells the projecter man to "spin it Daddy"... and they are
LIP SYNCHING the script and acting out the kidnaping of the women..then the army guys or air force or whatever and the general walks like a robot in his little uniform.

Then the Martians come out in black outfits with dealybobbers on their heads, lip synching to a disco version of "There Ain't Nothing Like a Dame".......

The play was only an hour long, and there were several song and dance numbers, including disco "Climb Every Mountain", "PerHaps, Perhaps" from Coupling & Strictly Ballroom...lots more lip synching and general hamming it up..

MeeMaw's best line was: (the Martians are pretty tired out and one of them says " I'm bushed!"..)..the players freeze on stage and MeeMaw jumps up on the stage and says to the audience: "I think we've ALL been BUSHED!!!!""...

applause, applause.

so if you are in Fort Worth this coming weekend, you can see
"Mars Needs Women" on Friday, Saturday or Sunday night at the Hip Pocket Theatre on Silver Creek Road. Admission is reasonable, cheap if you have KERA membership or a StarTel Presspass.

Closes Sunday night.

next production:
"Mr Peabody and the Mermaid"

opens July 8.

3. hope you make it, and if you do check out the Kimball's big
Islamic art show from the Victoria and Albert Museum, our fabulous zoo
or the concerts in the Garden...

after all the play is only about an hour long.

Let me know if you decide to head north. We can at least meet for coffee maybe.
