I'm Windows ME- FREE! I Upgraded To XP!
I know. I know. What took me so long. Well, I was afraid that an upgrade would screw up my programs and files, and any expense over $50 has to be a real necessity during the Bush era.

Everything went fine except for the driver for sound card. All that I had to do for that was download the Windows XP sound driver from Gateway, and I was all set!

Thanks to you all for your advice about the upgrade.

1. Did you start over from scratch...
or install XP over Me? I have Me and would like to replace it with something. Been thinking of installing a 2nd hard drive -- I have an ad in front of me for a 40G drive for $40 after rebates -- and putting Linux on it, then eventually phasing out my use of Windows altogether.

4. I Installed XP Over ME
I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking about buying a second hard drive, putting Linux on it, and networking it with my XP. I don't even know if it can be done.

6. Samba for networking
This allows you to communicate with Winbloat boxes.

As for the Mac crowd, go look up how much a GOOD Mac (avoid the $800 POSes) cost and tally that with how much you get. A nice OS, maybe, but technology-per-dollar, Macs are waaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced and are not worth the time or money. A good Mac that's comparable to a P4 2.6GHz computer costs much more than $1000, try $1800 or more... But what do I know, I get away with using Athlon processors and save $300 more per machine and have had NO stability or other problems.

And Linux is the way to go.

Why?

Because, if the sheeple wake up and want to ditch Micro$oft, they will either have to buy new $1800 computers + the cost of new apps to get something worthwhile in a Mac (again, the $1000 models are not that powerful and their use of colorful cases only adds to the insult), or get Linux which will work on their existing hardware for no cost in most cases (though new apps would have to be purchased...). Linux is so simple, even I can use it! Switching to Linux is, vastly, the more cost effective solution.

And considering how much they cost, I'm amazed Apple ditched SCSI components; which is what they used to use... (SCSI is generally better than IDE, but that's another story...)

3. I have both and I like both.
XP is definitely the best Windows yet. True, it's no OSX, but then again, the hardware doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

5. I switched
I have a two year old Gateway computer with Windows ME and this year for a particular birthday I bought myself a

MAC!!!

You know what they say...

Once you go MAC you never go back.....

I am now the PROUD owner of a 12 inch powerbook and I love it.

My old windows machine (named blows) sits at home while I take the Mac on the road when I am house sitting.
