Chubby fucking Carrier played at my nephew's wedding reception!!!!!!!!
Zydeco fans - believe it. I just got home from the most awesome wedding reception I have ever been to. We walked in expecting a DJ or a lame band and my nephew and his bride had hired CHUBBY CARRIER!!!!

OMG OMG OMG OMG This was the BEST wedding reception I have ever been to. My husband and kids (who are all musicians) were absolutely blown away.

My nephew's bride is a huge Chubby fan and when they got engaged last fall, she called Chubby and hired him to play at her wedding. (I think I already really like my new niece).

We got to talk to Chubby and he was so nice. He autographed a CD for me and for my 8 year old niece who danced like crazy. They let her come up on stage and play the washboard. They also had the bride and groom on stage and anyone who wanted to come up and wear the washboard and play with the band. I took 70 pictures and will try to post them.

They are also playing the Wakarusa Festival this weekend in Lawrence. They will be back here in KC on July 22 at Knucklehead's and you know we will be there.

1. Congratulations!
I don't know who Chubby Carrier is, but if he played your family's wedding reception then he is totally cool in my book.

6. from his website:
Chubby was born in Lafayette, LA raised in Church Point, LA. He is the third generation zydeco artist. As a child, he learned the music by listening to his father Roy Carrier and his grandfather Warren Carrier. He also learned tips from his cousins' BeBe and Calvin Carriere. His family and the King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier, inspired Chubby.

Chubby began his music career playing drums in his father's band at the age of 12. He played his first gig on the accordion at the age of 15. Later, in 1987, he joined forces with Terrance Simien and the Mallet Playboys. Chubby toured with Terrance for two and a half years.

In 1989, Chubby formed his own band, the Bayou Swamp Band. They toured playing festivals, fairs, music halls, and clubs both nationally and internationally and have done so for 16 years. In the new millennium, Chubby created his own record company, Swampadellic Records, Inc.

Fans can catch Chubby and the band touring in their home state by clicking on Band Schedule for all upcoming shows. And remember, you zydeco maniacs, Ain't no party like a Chubby party.

4. LOL my anti social hubby
said exactly that when we got there. Then as soon as he saw who was playing, he was THERE for the night. My sister (the groom's mom) said 'Oh is this like a famous band or something?' She knows nothing about music. I said 'Uh yeah, you could say that'. LOL

10. I really wanted to go to Wakarusa this year
but it was the same weekend as my baby's birthday (her party was yesterday).
At least I didn't get eaten up by chiggers.

instead of Wakarusa. But their mood changed when we got to the reception. :toast:

That had to be a great reception.
Wakarusa had a decent lineup this year. I really wanted to go see Wilco.

What a bummer. Hope you get somewhere with your complaint.

Next year, just have your daughter's party at Wakarusa. :)

14. AWESOME!
Thanks for the PM I would have missed this for certain since I have been gone so much the last few days.

That must have been so much fun. Wow.

Are you making any of the Wakaursa Festival? I drove home from Lawrence Friday afternoon and the traffic on 70 was bumper to bumper almost all the way to Topeka. I have never seen it like that, ever.

I have not heard Chubby so I will have to keep that band in mind when I do my next search for new music.

I am glad you had a fun time, Zydeco can really get you moving!

17. I have tons of pictures
and will bring some on Wed. when we come up to hear you play.

I can burn you a copy of the CD we bought on stage last night if you want one. Chubby is great. I have always been more of a Chenier fan but Chubby is just as good. I had never heard him live before. Now I am a big fan :) My sister told me today that the bride just emailed him via his website. It was a fortunate coincidence that Wakarusa was the same weekend.

We talked to him at the break. We said we didn't realize you played weddings. He said 'whatever it takes to pay the bills'. He was incredibly nice. He had my 9 year old niece and her 7 year old brother up on stage playing the washboard and they were in total heaven. My niece literally had stars in her eyes. She said 'Aunt Proud, he is really famous, isn't he?' He signed CDs for everyone and wrote really nice messages on them.

Now I have to figure out how to email these pictures. I finally got a photobucket account.
