Have to ask a republican for help..my Dad took a turn for the worse....
.....he's in Baylor Medical Center for bone marrow transplant treatment...he'd been improving but his primary Doc took his vacation this past week and my Dad's central line developed a bacterial infection and he's now delusional with fever and didn't even know who my mom was today...I talked to her and he was cryin' in pain in the background.....he'd developed an infection around every central line they've ever used on him after takin' chemo....since his body was just beginning to start producing healthy cells from his donor they let him go outpatient to an apartment reserved for patients and family members who're their primary caregiver *my mom* and he'd been doin' fine...now this and she said the doc on call still hasn't seen him after bein' in there for almost two days...so I called my Dad's best friend...our extremely rich adopted family member who supposedly thinks of my Dad as his adopted dad....owns his own jet that he can pilot btw....for some help to get over to Dallas from here...Monroe, La...to see my Dad on Father's Day in hopes that I could possibly say or do SOMETHING to help him and my Mom through the weekend....waiting for word back and have to get offline for the call....would appreciate some good karma...vibes....prayers from ya'll today...and hope that everything that's bein' done IS bein' done to bring this infection under control...thanks in advance...will give an update when I know something else.

4. Many prayers
that he will make it through this crisis. My son had leukemia and had the central line for chemo. He developed an infection two weeks after it was put in and we were back in the hospital. It is common for this to happen and the procedure is to pull it if there is no immediate response to the antibiotics. He did not have a bone marrow transplant but it was fresh off the first devastating round of chemo. My son did respond to the antibiotics and kept the same line in for over five years. Today he is 20yrs old, going to college and doing all the stuff that 20yr olds do.

10. He was only 15 months
old when he was diagnosed and because of his age and high counts the prospects of a sustained remission was not good. Of his group in the hospital he is the only one who made it. He has some special mission in life. I just wanted to assure jus_the-facts that even when it all appears so terrible the outcome can be still be good.

19. What do you mean the doctor on call hasn't seen him after two days?
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 02:52 PM by cornermouse
I think I'd start looking for a department head to talk to.

Let me edit this to say that you need to start looking for a "ladder to climb". If he's in the hospital, presumably the doctor on call has someone that he has to answer to. I'd start with the fact that you've been told that no one has seen him for two days, and go from there.

22. Thank you all so very much.....an UPDATE....
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 08:43 AM by jus_the_facts
....I didn't get to go see him as the drive is 10 hours round trip and the gas to get there was beyond what my finances could endure as well...never heard back from my *bro* the puke either....Mom said there's no change with my Dad...he's still delusional with an infection supposedly..but not running any fever which I think is quite strange...they're supposed to run a gamut of tests today to try to find out why he's in this state all of a sudden when he'd been doin' so well up untill now...SIGH...I'm at work and tryin' to deal with all this from a distance and it really sux.

Thank you all again soooo much for your well wishes and support. :loveya: :grouphug:
