Somebody PLEASE explain Jiminy Cricket to me.

I mean... who ever saw a cricket in a top-hat & tails? Crickets can't talk. It really creeps me out.

Actually I have always found Jiminy Cricket to be one of the least creepy cartoon animals.

3. I've heard that Walt liked to use controlled substances. Many times
since I was small. From many different sources.

I think that would explain it.

Why does he creep you out? He taught me to spell 'encyclopedia'.

5. he really exists on several different levels
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 07:15 AM by cleofus1
philosophically he is the conscious embodiment of our guilt...
physically he symbolizes our feelings of inadequacy
on a subconscious level he is our intuition
spiritually an avatar
and intellectually as a property he is a Disney legal artifact

6. I don't know about the tophat and tails, but talking crickets have been
part of fables for many years longer than Jiminy has been around :) (popular Hindu myths mention a talking cricket).

Actually, come to think of it, the talking cricket in Pinnochio pre-dates the Disney cartoon by quite some time. :).

I now return you to your cartoon creep out :)

9. There was, as I stated, a "talking cricket".
Pinnochio threw a shoe (or a hammer depending on the version you read) at him and killed him. His name was not given as "Jiminy" but there was a talking cricket :).
