Actually I have always found Jiminy Cricket to be one of the least creepy cartoon animals.

Actually, come to think of it, the talking cricket in Pinnochio pre-dates the Disney cartoon by quite some time. :).

Pinnochio threw a shoe (or a hammer depending on the version you read) at him and killed him. His name was not given as "Jiminy" but there was a talking cricket :).
