Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 12:00 AM by senseandsensibility
You don't have to name the poster (unless you want to);-)

For me, it was a snarky suggestion that there IS a spell check feature on DU. Hey, I guess I've been lucky!

Thank you. Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.

2. Well, this isn't the rudest, but it really really bugs me.
Whenever someone (who doesn't know me) says, "that's pretty hypocritical of you, Rev."

My inner demons say "Fuck you." The outer angel says "how dare you."

For Christ's sake, my avatar was the rainbow flag and he wants to insult me by calling me a cock-sucker? Duh..I'm sorry, don't think he thought that one through completely.

Anyway, several of us got quite a few laughs over it and thats what really matters. Its just a message board.

47. Oh, I always checked ATA first thing, everytime I logged on....
They had all the best threads: the drama, the comedy, the tragedy...everything was there. Skinner and the admins had wicked senses of humor and often left me almost in tears.

Plus, I formed my opinion of quite a few posters based on their posts there. I learned who tries to whine their way to victory, who tries brown-nosing, who feels that they're a poor little victim, and (my favorites) who understood that the posturing was all a really hilarious joke. I mean "She called me a..." or "Why can't I say...."

I REALLY loved the people who got all puffy and indignant. "HOW DARE YOU CENSOR MY WORDS". "She called me a....", "why can't I say....", "You have no right to..." "I just want to tell you how ...." "You're not being FAIR!"

My God, some people have a VASTLY overinflated sense of their own personal importance.

Sometimes, I could almost feel Skinners blood pressure rising and see that little vein in his forehead start to throb!

Alas, ATA, we hardly knew ye....

6. I can't narrow it down to a single post
But being called "soft" on Bush or the Republicans always bothers me. Sometimes I feel like its a contest here as to who can prove that they hate Bush and the Republicans the most.

Or maybe in a post from last year where I dared to criticize Al Qaeda and bin Laden without the obligatory anti-Bush message (as if that should be necessary every single time you post here).

Believe it or not, Bush and the Republicans are not the only evil people in the world.

49. It was when the troops in the National Guard unit in Iraq ...
abandoned their mission because the gas they were transporting was old and they were reprimanded . And I posted about writing to the Congressmen/Congresswomen and Senators that represented the area which the unit was based from in the states - the poster thought this was a stupid idea . And this particular poster said something about not trusting or there is no good Congressmen and Senators anymore . I gave my opinion that I believe that there are some who are still on ourside ( Conyers for example ) and this person went apes!&*! on me saying that I am too young to have an opinion and that if I stuck around a bit longer that I would learn something . I was heated but not heated enough to leave the DU . I did not put this person on ignore either - I just let it go . And the lesson learned : even assholes can say a lot of words , but they still don't say anything .

so I can't even remember the rudest.

My favorite ones are the Fristian diagnosis-from-a-distance insults, where I am told I have some mental disorder or another. By now I think I have them all.

And the "you have pent-up rage" posts always make me rofl, because my rage is front and center LOL. I don't hide when I'm pissed. I always picture someone with pent-up rage as that nerd who keeps quietly to himself while he plots malevolance and picks his boogers.

56. no, that does not help either
the key is to join in the echo chamber and say "aint it the truth?" to things which you really think are simplistic, mean-spirited, or factually inaccurate.

Of course, probably my worst response came when I had a very low post count, SOMEBODY posted: "Why use english when you can use German like a good little Nazi?"
Then a month later, somebody else said: "Shut the fuck up. You have no clue about living in poverty. I'm done."
Still, it was only two months ago that I got this response: "That's breathtakingly stupid. That has got to be one of the most sexist things I've ever seen on here."

Granted, I was arguing an untenable position, but I still thought everything I was saying was being misinterpreted in the worst possible way.

Still, I am starting to get some better responses, such as:

"That's good, i like it
I can't help but feel that the corporatocracy has the upper hand and
i'm wondering what benefit there is in supporting it at all... but
i accept your good hearted way of framing it."

"Thank you for an intelligent discussion, whether we end up agreeing or not."

Some people apparently forget to use the sarcasm tag on this board, but it is fun when you can vigorously argue and still walk away with mutual respect.

46. I made the mistake of posting a rant
in the lounge about a horrible experience I had in a restaurant in which I was tormented for close to a half hour by an out-of-control screaming 3-year-old whose mother ignored him. I pointed out that I'm a mom, myself, and certainly not anti-child, but that situation was beyond the pale.

Well, I quickly learned that there is a vocal minority on DU who firmly believe that the 3-year old had the right to scream unabated, his mom had the right to ignore him, and if I didn't like it, too damn bad becauseI had no right to enjoy the lunch I was paying for.

Sorry, but I think people who believe that are rude.

53. I missed the one about the kid throwing up.
My daughter had an incident like that in a restaurant when she was two, and wouldn't you know we were having lunch with some childless friends we hadn't seen in years. Boy did we get her away from that table and clean her and the mess up in a hurry. I've never apologized so much in a 10 minute period in my life - to anyone and everyone in the place.

How could anyone just ignore that and continue to eat? Unbelievable, but having witnessed the tantrum I wrote about, I guess you can never underestimate just how rude people can be.

60. I was called a troll frequently in GD 2004
It was very safe to be a blinders-on cheerleader in that forum, and claim we would win Georgia via 20 points worth of hidden cell phone users. I posted a thread that our so-called registration advantage was hideously overrated, not worth anything close to the net 2-4% that so many DUers were estimating. The bashing went on for a couple hundred posts.

Also after the election when I had the audacity to point out the guy doing all the election fraud threads didn't understand the basics of margin for error, making the most simpleton gaffe imaginable in one elongated "proof" thread. That guy was so embarrassed to be caught in a basic math flub he replied with whining and capitalization and a threat to post a poll asking DUers if I was a troll, until many others came to my defense and correctly pointed out he sounded like a child.

We're in a down period in terms of federal races, due to the residue of 9/11 and its impact on party identification, specifically among Hispanics and white women. I've studied political numbers carefully since '96 and they simply aren't encouraging in many areas right now. I point that out occasionally but many DUers don't want to hear it.

61. I was accused of showing off (my sig line marquee)...
by the only person on my current IGNORE list.

S/he PMed me a zillion times about the scrolling text in my sig line.

I was accused of showing off my HTML skills (which I learned in the DU lounge, btw) and not being courteous enough to DUers with ADD, for whom scrolling text is too distracting.

Hilarious... because both my husband and my daughter are diagnosed ADDers.

I have to admit that I was proud when I mastered the marquee code (thanks to SoCalDem), but damn! PMing me numerous times to complain?
Why not hit the IGNORE button? Too easy?

I wonder if that particular poster is still going after the sigline marquee folks.

62. I was called a freeper
Just because I (indirectly) said I wanted the bush administration to fail. My point was why would we necessarily want * cabinet appointees to be sterling, flawless, wise choices. (No worries there.) So he called me a freeper.

My accuser is still here in the Lounge.... someday I will challenge him to a duel.

69. I'm a Bush supporter and I'm the Darth Sidious of Trolls
Trolls come and go, I train them, prop them up, and if they should die that's okay because I'll always have another one in waiting.

Luckily only a few diligent DUers can see this.

All sarcasm aside, said diligent DUers can all line up and kiss my ass

71. That I was a serious mess
Right after the election, everyone here was emailing some not-too-bright knee-jerk-conservative woman who wrote an editorial to a local paper which said something along the lines of "the Dems are just sore losers".

The woman replied to one of the DU emailers saying she was stunned and devastated by the huge volume of vitriolic emails she was receiving, and couldn't believe she was the recipient of so much hatred and bile. She basically said she was just a housewife, wrote a LTTE of her small paper, and now hundreds of people were emailing and calling her with vicious personal attacks, and she was feeling overwhelmed.

I posted to say I felt kind of sorry for her, and that maybe we were piling on a little.

I had a low post count at the time, and someone wrote and said that mine was the stupidest, most badly-thought out post they had ever read. I hadn't grown a tough skin yet, but I did know enough to put them on "ignore". They're my only "ignore" so far!

90. Anyone who actually believed that or continues to..
needs to re-examine reality. Gossip and viscious lies like that are one of my pet peeves.

I know the truth and can vouch for your character and the thought of you being a stalker would be funny if it wasn't so insulting.
