Bush stickers on cars at Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson show???
I went to the Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson show tonight just outside DC. The show itself was great -- although hot and humid as hell.

What I couldn't believe was the number of cars in the parking lot with Bush-Cheney stickers. While there were MANY more progressive bumper stickers -- 100s, as compared to the 10-20 Bush stickers I saw, it was still strange to see any Repuke stickers at all.

2. Well....
Willie Nelson is from Texas and he plays country so he will undeniably appeal to some of the red state crowd.

3. I thought that Willie traveled with Kerry last year??
But I do see your point on the genre itself.

5. Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard said
on FoxNews said that he was going to the show. Hope Bob played 'Masters of War' for him.

Willie supported Kucinich for President and sang a wonderful song at our convention.

8. Bob Dylan is just another old aging musician family man.
The sixties and seventies are long gone.

He and Willy are just a couple of geezers.

9. I'd agree with everything you say...
If YOU'D agree with everything I say!
How's that for a deal?

No seriously, I do agree.. I just don't think it addresses my basic point.
I mean, in a way you're right... I know a lotta morons who like Pink Floyd, which I tend to think of as a kind of 'thinking man's music'...
It's a seperation of the poetry from the music, and I'm always astounded that it DOES seperate out so easily for some...
The 60's and 70's may be gone, but they COULD come back if people would understand that poetry is not just a series of rhyming words, but an elucidation of the possible...
Then again, in this case it's probably just the fact that no one could understand any of Bob's lyrics, given my link above...

I don't think poetry has failed us, though. I think we've failed it.

10. Well said.
Dylan played "Masters of War" last night. For people who don't know the lyrics, here they are: http://bobdylan.com/songs/masters.html

In any event, I do politicize things more than I should, but it still boggles my mind that there were strong Bush supporters last night who were quite possibly cheering and singing along to such lines as:

"You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly"

Sometimes I really do feel like the Lone Ranger regarding a lot of this stuff...
Not so much at the moment, though...

Maybe they borrowed daddy's car.
