They make peanut butter, why not almond butter or
walnut butter or pecan butter or pistachio butter, etc.? Wouldn't those be good with jelly too? Is it really fair to all of the other nuts?

Tried soy butter once, but it sucked.

41. organic raw almond butter is the best for you
it's the only alkaline nut and, of course, won't have trans fats like Nutella. But it's pricey. I blow through two 12 oz jars a month probably.

My Italian father loved that stuff. I like it, but not like he did.

I like all nuts better in their raw state. The only peanuts I like are raw. But, the butters we buy are made - I never gave it a thought - are probably made from roasted nuts.

We shop at Whole Foods. I'll certainly look for it - hey, pricey is all right, isn't it, if what you're getting is that good?

29. peanuts are cheap. the other nuts are more expensive
that's why when you buy a can of mixed nuts, it will sometimes say "less than 50% peanuts" or some such, because cheap mixed nuts will have lots of peanuts.

I'm guessing that the other nut butters are too expensive to make mass marketing effective.

it's great on graham crackers, too. Any kind of not too sweet cookie or not too salty cracker would be good.

It's sweeter than peanut butter, so I don't think if it would be good on bread with jelly.

I fell in love with Nutella when I was in Europe. It's fairly analogous in Europe to peanut butter over here, or vegemite in Australia; an all-purpose, tasty (okay, maybe not vegemite) bread spread for toast, sandwiches, and as an ingredient in wacky, off-beat cooking.

Nutella is YUMMY! :9

The one near me has 3 nut grinding machines: one for regular peanuts, one for some honey roasted peanuts, and one for almonds! Freshly ground almond butter is FABULOUS!

One of my kids is allergic to peanuts. We've tried almond, cashew, and roasted sunflower seed butter. Thank goodness the latter is her favorite, because that's the cheapest. :-) Have you ever tried Nutella? That's a chocolate hazelnut spread. Yum!

The thing about peanuts is that they are comparatively cheap, so the butters cost less.

If you get any of the assorted nut butters from health food stores the oil often rises to the surface and it's sort of a pain to mix it up well with every use.

Simple solution: store the jar upside down. Place upright shortly before use. Let gravity take its course for a few minutes and poof.

It's much easier to spread evenly.

27. I always get the peanut butter with the oil on top...
and I pour it off to use for cooking.

There's enough left in the remaining peanut butter to make it tasty.

It's a really rich confection made from finely-ground sesame seeds. When you eat some, it turns chewy from a powdered consistency. I love it in small doses, but it is incredibly rich. I feel the same about marzipan, which is made from almonds. :9

Plus Dr. Washington wasn't looking for something interesting to do with almonds. Peanuts were/are vital for crop rotation, and back before him there wasn't anything good to do with peanuts.

in making humus spread from chickpeas, for sauces, and even fora surprisingly delicious salad dressing mixed with umeboshi (Japanese salted plums) - used in Macrobiotic cookery.
