....Dear Andrew, The new pope should probably be given the benefit of the doubt for his first hundred days. Frankly the Pope’s in Washington D. C. are more distressing and of greater danger. I mean of course Pope Tom Delay (pronounced D-Lie} and Pope Bill Frist (pronounced FRISK) who both claim God speaks directly to each of them. Now really can God really be that kind of screwball? Still their stealth canonization by the religious right ought to be a worry to all of us.

The one redeeming factor might be that like the not so reverend Jerry Faldwell both Frisk and DeLie can be counted on from time to time to reveal acute symptoms of hoof in mouth disease rendering any and all of their uttering irreverent. In sorrow, not pity, Rod....
