Plant, animal (mammal, reptile, marsupial, fowl, anything)

I think I would bring back the pterodactyl (which has probably been renamed, but I'm sure you know what I mean).

20. I presume you meant the extinction of such a numerous species.
Most people are told it was because we shot them all.

It was in reality because the passenger pigeons bred in massive, massive colonies, almost like (actually much more impressive than) seabird colonies or heron rookeries. These things covered hundreds of square miles of forest. The birds would breed in different places, and wander widely across the continent (like certain grosbeaks and crossbills, etc) to follow food sources.

So when the forests got cut down, the passenger pigeon, unlike most other forest birds, were unable to persist in the smaller patches. It was additionally hard for them to keep up becuase their reproductive cycles only got triggered in the presence of large numbers of other passenger pigeons.

Alas, nature played a cruel prank - when they became mere beaurocratic New-Deal caretakers, their spines evolved away from lack of use, leaving them soft and chewy, and vulnerable to widespread predation.
