We moved this weekend...by ourselves
A family move, done college-style. I'd rather have twins without anesthesia than do that again. Next time I want guys who have spent the last six years pumping iron in prison.

Ugggg.... 10 years ago it was me and a duffle bag... 10 years later it's me, three kids and two (24) foot U-haul trucks. WTF!

6. I 'moved' on a BUS once... WIth paper bags filled with my belongings
and a duffle bag.

Twas 20 years ago though. But I can still fit all my crap in one 20 foot truck.

I always say, "you learn who your REAL friends are on moving day!"

3. I feel your pain.
The deciding factor for us to use a moving company to move just 5 miles down the road was how much the resulting chiropractic care would cost versus the moving costs. Somehow those 1800 or so hardback books we own also helped make that decision. I watched those moving guys put 3(THREE!!) boxes of books at a time on their back and go up a flight (small) of stairs!!!!!! They were barely winded when they left my house, and were on their way to move somebody else.

I've heard ben-gay helps. :)

5. Not that I wasn't already busting my ass all weekend.......
Oh, and did I mention that we had no power at our house from 8PM Thursday until 6:30PM Saturday, with the exception of an extention cord to run the fridge that our neighbor's across the street let us use.

I was sanding drywall and painting on the primer Saturday and Sunday. My arms are killing me.

You could have called. We would have at least let you use the minivan if you needed it. But good work. Now the hard part begins. The unpacking.

12. Never again.
Luckily it was just 1.5 bathrooms. It's done now. Just a finish coat and I'm through.

Then I'll get to start on the Rec Room/Music Studio in the basement. I better stop before I'm accused of threadjacking.

14. A little Music Room.
I still a lot of my recording gear in boxes. Never unpacked since we moved back.

Prolly get a new 'puter and recording software. A place to sit and sequence and record. This will serve two purposes. It will add to my enjoyment and will get the boys from in front of the TV that currently occupieds that space.

10. We were OK
A friend with a beat-up pickup helped us move the solid-core door desks that weigh 16 tons each last weekend--those, and the couches.

We got most everything else into a 20' truck (we're not moving a mansion here folks).

Sounds like you had your hands full anyway, XNASA.

16. My first move.
Alabama to Oklahoma for USAF pilot training.
Everything I owned in the back seat of a VW bug.
Not even anything in the so-called trunk.
And I still had an unobstructed view in the rear-view mirror.

My Last (and I do mean LAST) Move
The full, deluxe Mayflower whole-magilla, including all packing and unpacking, from NH to AL.
Paid for courtesy of the Great State of NH.
They took our home for a highway project in a 5 year long, VERY adversarial, procedure.
Part of the standard eminent domain deal was the state pays ALL relocation expenses AND closing costs for new mortgage.
I just didn't tell them I was relocating 1500 miles away, until the contract was signed, sealed, and delivered.
Revenge was sweet.

19. We had 3 1/2 acres in the woods.
Oaks and pines.
You couldn't see another house from ours. Cross-country ski trails. In the boonies, but only 5 or 10 minutes from major shopping areas. It was idyllic.

Originally they wanted to pay me a couple of grand for a small corner of the property that would actually be in the right-of-way. When they finished I'd be right next to a busy connector highway. No thanks.

Five years (and two lawyers) later they finally agreed to take the entire property. It was the most frustrating period of my life.
