Poll question: Frank Zappa's first 10 albums. YOU pick the greatest...RZZZZZ!
A purposely narrow poll...these are the first ten albums released by Zappa, with and without The Mothers. Maybe someone will do a "part two" later.

4. I remember exactly when and where I was when I saw the album cover of
FREAK OUT. It was a mind blower, took me to a new level of enjoyment and appreciation of music.

Thanks Frain

6. Tough choices since there are so many good early Zappa albums
Of course my all time favorite is "Apostrophe" since it is the very first Zappa album I ever heard (in college).

8. Uncle Meat
The Dog Breath Variations.

Nine Types of Industrial Pollution.

A Pound for a Brown on the Bus.

King Kong (as played by three deranged Good Humor trucks...)

Dang, what a good album!

But yeah, they're all pretty cosmic from this time period.

10. I have a big soft spot for Weasels
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 07:29 PM by Rabrrrrrr
And not just because it was the first Zappa album I owned, but because "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama" is simply too precious, and Dwarf Nebula and Sexually Aroused Gas Mask positively blew me away. It was the kind of music I had envisioned (and I was but 16 at the time) in my head, and that I wished someone would do, but, so far as I knew, no one was doing. Then I discovered Weasels, and I knew the world was gonna be okay because the music I wanted to hear was being made by at least one person, and there were enough other people interested in it that albums could be made.

I've been addicted to Zappa ever since, even though he totally squashed my junior high dream of being the first person to be a rock and roller AND compose classical music. Damn you, Frank, for doing it first! But far, far, far more, I thank you, and wish to hell you were still with us. 100 CDs was not enough!!! Make more, Frank!!

11. What's there to live for? Who needs the peace corps?
Think I'll just DROP OUT
I'll go to Frisco
Buy a wig & sleep
On Owsley's floor

Walked past the wig store
Danced at the Fillmore
I'm completely stoned
I'm hippy & I'm trippy
I'm a gypsy on my own
I'll stay a week & get the crabs &
Take a bus back home
I'm really just a phony
But forgive me
'Cause I'm stoned

Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up on every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .

How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya Frisco!
How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya
Oh, my hair is getting good in the back!

Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up on every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .

Hotcha!

First I'll buy some beads
And then perhaps a leather band
To go around my head
Some feathers and bells
And a book of Indian lore
I will ask the Chamber Of Commerce
How to get to Haight Street
And smoke an awful lot of dope
I will wander around barefoot
I will have a psychedelic gleam in my eye at all times
I will love everyone
I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street
I will sleep . . .
I will, I will go to a house
That's, that's what I will do
I will go to a house
Where there's a rock & roll band
'Cause the groups all live together
And I will join a rock & roll band
I will be their road manager
And I will stay there with them
And I will get the crabs
But I won't care

12. All of the above.
But I vote for Chunga's Revenge. He showed great musical range on that one.
