What the HELL happened to the Solar Storm???

I heard there might be serious connection problems today about midday (in the East coast US) but so far nothing. That's good but what's up with the storms?

3. According to BBC
it came in and quickly dissipated, but not before giving us a gorgeous aurora borealis.

10. We learned from what happened the last big solar storm
So we "hibernated" vulnerable satellites and carefully controlled the power grids. Also, as others have said, it seemed to blow through and be done rather than last a long time.

My internet is fine -- the only problem I've noticed is slightly sub-par reception on my cell phone.

12. A Japanese comm satellite was shut down
They hope to have it up and running again once the ion storm passes.

That's the only disruption I've heard about so far.
